Belvidere East/Exit 170 KOA

Overview

Situated in the heart of South Dakota's vast prairie, the Belvidere East/Exit 170 KOA Journey serves as a peaceful oasis for travelers traversing Interstate 90. This park captures the essence of the Great Plains, offering wide-open vistas and stunning sunsets that stretch across the horizon. As a designated KOA Journey, it focuses on providing a convenient and comfortable resting point for RVers heading toward the Black Hills or the Badlands. The atmosphere is laid-back and quiet, allowing visitors to unwind after a long day on the road while enjoying the hospitality of a classic roadside retreat.

Location & Surroundings

The location of this park is its greatest asset for those on a cross-country adventure. Positioned right at Exit 170 off I-90, it eliminates the stress of navigating tight backroads with a large rig. The surrounding landscape consists of rolling grasslands and ranch land, providing a genuine sense of solitude away from the hustle of larger cities. While the park is easily accessible from the highway, the expansive prairie views create a serene buffer, making it feel like a true South Dakota getaway where the big sky takes center stage.

Amenities & Park Features

Designed with convenience in mind, the park features long pull-thru sites that can accommodate even the largest big rigs and tow vehicles. Guests can enjoy various on-site amenities to enhance their stay:

  • A refreshing seasonal swimming pool for summer cooling.
  • A dedicated KampK9 dog park for four-legged travelers.
  • Mini-golf and a playground for family entertainment.
The park also provides essential services like a well-stocked gift shop and propane refills, ensuring a comfortable experience for all guests.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the park itself is a quiet haven, it serves as an excellent gateway to some of South Dakota’s most iconic landmarks. A short drive west brings you to the dramatic landscapes of Badlands National Park, where rugged spires and deep canyons await exploration. History buffs will appreciate the proximity to the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, which offers a unique look into Cold War history. Additionally, the famous Wall Drug Store and the Pioneer Auto Show are within easy reach, making this a perfect home base for exploring the region.

Who This Park Is Best For

This KOA is an ideal match for long-haul RV travelers looking for a reliable, easy-access stopover with full hookups. It is particularly well-suited for families who need a safe and engaging place for children to play after hours in the car. Great campground a half mile north of I90. It was exceptionally clean, particularily the bathrooms, and quiet. There are two fenced areas for your dogs to run loose and a cute little playground for the kids. The office staff was helpful and they were well stocked on supplies. Room for rvs, tents and they have small cabins. I have a van conversion and appreciated a tent site with simple electric where I could plug in my cpap for the night. I camped everywhere I went in South Dakota and this was hands down the best! I also lucked out to be there the night of a meteor shower and had an amazing view of the sky without city lights. Quite the experience.

The owners are the nicest people!! They have a restaurant with a decent sized menu and good prices, arcade, laundry area, and a dog park. We arrived about 15 minutes after they closed the kitchen, but they still took our order, then delivered it to our cabin. The food was amazing!! Cabins are nice and clean, bathrooms are updated and clean. Location is about 1/2 mile off the interstate, so close enough for easy off/on access, but just far enough so you don't hear all the traffic. We will definitely stay here again!

Great owners who really work, take care of the park, and provide great service! The burgers are great, the pizza is loaded, and delivery to site is free. It's a 'No Light Pollution' park. Great view of the sky and no lights shining in bedroom window. Wife and I walked to 1880 town. It's less than a mile down the road.

Very friendly and welcoming owners and staff. Clean campground with spacious sites. They offer a variety of site types for every budget. Very close to 90 West for easy on and off freeway access. Cafe has all kinds of food and beverage options that they will deliver to your camper during business hours. Highly recommend staying at this KOA.

Food was awesome! Super convenient that they make food right on premises. We did the breakfast sandwiches and french toast and they were delicious. There is no pool on the grounds. It was super hot so we upgraded from our tent site to a cabin, which they were super helpful with. Cabin ac worked well. It was clean. There was a tv and a mini fridge in there. It is right down the road from the old time town and a gas station otherwise it is pretty much in the middle of no where.
