Overview
Bewabic State Park offers a quintessential Upper Peninsula experience, blending rich history with the serene beauty of the Michigan woods. Established in 1923, this park is distinguished by its unique Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) architecture, featuring hand-laid stonework and historic structures that provide a nostalgic atmosphere. RVers will find a well-preserved natural environment that feels remote yet remains accessible for those exploring the iron range of Iron County. The park is defined by its tall hardwoods and its position along the beautiful Fortune Lake Chain.
Location & Surroundings
Located just a few miles west of Crystal Falls, MI, the park sits in a region defined by its rugged landscapes and deep-blue waters. The campground is nestled on the shores of the Fortune Lake Chain, a series of four interconnected lakes that offer crystal-clear water and diverse shoreline views. The surrounding area is densely forested with maple, birch, and pine, providing a vibrant canopy that turns into a spectacular display of color during the autumn months. The location is quiet and secluded, perfect for those wanting to escape the bustle of more commercialized tourist hubs.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground at Bewabic features over 130 sites, many of which are specifically designed to accommodate RVs with electrical hookups. While the vibe is traditional and rustic, the park provides modern conveniences including clean restrooms and hot showers. Visitors can enjoy a large sandy swimming beach, a boat launch for easy water access, and several miles of hiking trails that wind through the hardwood forest. Families often appreciate the well-maintained playground and the historic picnic shelters that are perfect for afternoon gatherings by the lake.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with the Fortune Lake Chain offering excellent opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Just a short drive away, history buffs can visit the Iron County Museum in Caspian to learn about the region’s logging and mining heritage. For those who enjoy chasing waterfalls, Horserace Rapids and Pezzo Falls are nearby gems that showcase the raw power of the local river systems. The town of Crystal Falls also offers charming local dining and the historic Iron County Courthouse for a quick afternoon excursion.
Who This Park Is Best For
Bewabic State Park is ideal for nature-focused travelers who prefer the peace of a wooded campsite over the amenities of a luxury resort. It is a wonderful destination for paddling enthusiasts and anglers who want easy access to multiple lakes right from their basecamp. Families looking for a classic, screen-free camping experience will find the park’s beach and trails perfectly suited for children. If you are an RVer who enjoys historical character and the quiet rustle of a hardwood forest, this park is a must-visit stop in the Upper Peninsula.

Loved this SP! Stayed here in the spring and the lake was beautiful. Walking and hiking trails were well maintained, and the DNR staff were very friendly.

Been coming here since I was a kid. Parks need to be updated and there isn't as much play equipment for kids as there used to be. However, there is a nice little beach, boat launch, and picnic area as well as flush bathrooms and showers. Kayaks and life jackets for day use can be found by the beach toilets, as well as a paddle board. Lots of little fishing areas and hiking trails, as well as multiple lakes. Picked quite a few blackberries and Raspberries as well! Still love it here!

First time camping with my kids in a tent and the first experience was amazing the place is quite (minus the weekends) and most are so friendly. If you don't like crowds I highly recommend coming during the week and please adults with little kids please don't let them wonder off alone anything can still happen to those babies. My only other issue was some people thought it was still ok to drive the wrong way when there are signs that literally tell you what way to go throughout the campground which could be dangerous for little kids walking around not paying attention. As far as the staff I give them 10 stars and will be back with my family.

Awesome campground, big enough sites that you're not on top of each other. Lake Fortune was lovely. Bathrooms were clean and showers are available. We like it so much we're going back this weekend.

Nice lake, very peaceful environment with nice staff. Cool trail to a very nice island with a nice bridge, could see all different kinds of fish from the bridge. I can imagine many people enjoy fishing here because I saw three fishings boats. Note that there may be mud on some of the trails if it recently rained

This is an absolutely beautiful, clean state park. My family and I really enjoyed camping here. The sites are very private and the campground is pretty quiet. Loved it! We will definitely be coming here again.
