We spent two nights at Comanche Park Campground. Camp Host Erik was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Situated in an open Ponderosa pine forest 6.5 miles west of Custer, South Dakota, Comanche Park Campground is a campground for visitors seeking recreation and relaxation in the southern Black Hills National Forest. The campsites are spacious. Towering pine trees provide shade. This is the closest campground to Jewel Cave National Monument and an easy drive to get to Mount Rushmore

Camanche Park Ground is a solid choice for anyone looking to get completely off the grid, I'd say it's 101% off-grid, no exaggeration. I found a perfect spot to pitch my large teepee-style tent with plenty of space and privacy. The restrooms were clean, and I appreciated the large trash bins. makes cleanup easy. It gets very quiet at night, which added to the peaceful, remote experience. A great spot if you're looking to truly unplug.

This is a well maintained national forest site. Pit toilets were clean (amazingly), sites were mowed. Eric (campground host) was friendly and helpful. Pointed out some off pavement exploration options. I have a 28' bumper pull and was fine. There were some larger rigs, but it looked like they had some fun getting in. The entrance road is one lane, so if you have a head on, someone's gotta back up. My family has experience with this and we send one person ahead on foot with a radio to make sure the road is clear.

Lovely place to camp! The bathrooms are extremely clean. The sites are a nice distance from each other as well. We were in site 33 with our 21 foot RPod and it was a great fit. And the host, Eric, is terrific, friendly and attentive.

Eric is the kind of host that you can pitch your tent and relax. He was able to assist us from directing us to great sxs trails to where to find cell service 😀. It's obvious he takes pride in his work from cleaning to campground to being of service to all types of campers. Thank you Eric!

After a long drive, then a short night and an early morning, I prepared to eat some rejuvenating oatmeal, but first I made a bleary-eyed trip to what I thought would be the Black Hills National Forest's finest fecal facility. My alarm didn't fully wake me up, but the absolute left hook of a nasal punch emanating from the Comanche Park toilets put a Zeus-lightning-like jolt through every cell in my body, sending me sprawling backwards. After a short recovery period, I returned to the ring, and put on a spectacular defensive showing, covering my nose, and breathing through my shirt, avoiding the attacks on all sides. Though the judges gave the fight to the outhouse, I felt lucky to escape with my life and sanity. The relaxing, coniferous and edenic forest did its best to comfort me as I attempted to return to my oatmeal, but you and I both know that oatmeal isn't that appetizing in the first place. As the staff came around to check us out, I didn't have the heart or courage to share my story, so here it is. 4 out of 5 stars, not for the faint of heart (or nose).

Everything is pretty good except the noice level. The campsite is close to the road so I can hear the traffic at night. Host was really nice stopping by to say hi.

Awesome campsite! The manager was very easy to deal with and the campsites were spaced plenty far apart. It was a very relaxing night and exactly what I wanted for camping. We bought wood from her and water was available near us. The toilets are a little smelly but that's about every campsite so I can't fault them for that.

We really liked it there. Sadly we had to leave, as my husband has to work while we travel. With no phone service he couldn't even use hot spot. The camp hostess was phenomenal. Very friendly and helpful. Very nice woman, Thank you so much Kim. God bless
