Black Warrior-Tombigbee - COE/Jennings Ferry
Overview
Jennings Ferry Campground sits along the banks of the Black Warrior River, offering a peaceful retreat within the Black Warrior-Tombigbee Waterway system. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this park is known for its expansive river views and well-spaced sites. It serves as a quiet escape for those looking to reconnect with nature without sacrificing essential comforts like reliable power and water.
Location & Surroundings
Located in the rural landscape of Akron, Alabama, the park is defined by its proximity to the Black Warrior River. The surrounding area is characterized by dense forests and wetlands, providing a lush green backdrop for campers. Because it is somewhat remote, visitors enjoy a significant break from city noise, replaced instead by the sounds of local waterfowl and the gentle flow of the river through the Alabama countryside.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 52 spacious sites, many of which offer water and electric hookups for RVers. On-site facilities include the following:
- Clean bathhouse with hot showers
- Laundry facilities and a convenient dump station
- A private boat ramp and accessible fishing pier
- A playground and picnic shelters with fire rings
These features ensure that guests have a comfortable stay while enjoying the rugged beauty of the Alabama outdoors.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water activities are the main draw here, with the river providing excellent opportunities for boating and fishing for bass, catfish, and crappie. On land, the Jennings Ferry Trail offers a scenic path for hikers and birdwatchers to explore the local flora. While the park is pleasantly secluded, the city of Tuscaloosa is approximately 30 miles away, offering access to the University of Alabama campus and various historical sites.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for anglers and boaters who want direct access to the waterway. It also appeals strongly to retired travelers and families seeking a quiet, budget-friendly environment with a high standard of maintenance. If you appreciate large, level campsites and a slow-paced atmosphere surrounded by Alabama’s natural beauty, this Corps of Engineers park is a perfect fit for your next trip.

This is the cleanest campground that I have ever seen! Sites were nicely spaved apart. Watched tugboats on the Warrior River. Hosts were great!

This is a beautiful, well kept campground. It is dog friendly, and had easy access to the Black Warrior river for fishing. The sites are clean and the area is so pretty.

This is a great place to stay. There are fishing & boating areas. Otherwise you can just relax and enjoy the views. Sites are nice and shady with water & electric. There is a dump site near the entrance.

So, this place was a nice surprise. Arrived here and there was a nice old volunteer couple at the front entrance. Wife at the window, husband killing bees (which was awful). They asked if I'd like a nicer site, and I said yes. So, they gave me one by the water with a deck, 13. This backs up to the boat ramp. Which would be a problem in the main season, but we were only here 2 days and there were not many boats this time of year. Would not want this site in season. Actually, would not want to be here in season because boaters equal noise and drunkenness. But for us it was very quiet. Restrooms were surprisingly clean. And I mean clean all the way up. Normally in a CG they only clean-up to 5 ft high. But the ceiling was clean. No spider webs, no dirty windows, no dead bugs in the light covers. The restroom building is sinking and there are stress fractures in the walls and tiles. Some tiles have broken and fallen off. Which is a safety hazard. Showers have no doors, only curtains. But they get hot and have good pressure. The laundry room is permanently closed. Fortunately, we just did laundry but still disappointing. Drinking fountains don't work. There is a nice playground next to the bathroom. We were only here 2 days as a stopover on our way west. I would never go out into town, the only things out there are misinformation, poverty, despair and gun stores. Lots of houses with extremist flags, yards filled with derelict vehicles, old furniture and broken appliances. It's ok for an overnight but that is about it. When you turn off the highway onto the road leading to the park be very careful. There is a very steep hill with large potholes at the bottom. We camped at Jennings Ferry Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We absolutely love this park what a great experience. The staff was over and above the top. Very friendly people, it was very cold. And they brought us some firewood, very much appreciated., the bathrooms were very clean and while maintained and nice hot showers.

Beautiful campground with nice large sites, especially the back-in sites by the water. Great for big rigs that are towing! We were there in early January, it was cold and a little rainy but still worth the stay. There were several other campers there too, even with the cold. We have Starlink and the reception wasn't too good because of all the trees but it helped with internet and streaming. You can get a few TV stations with your antenna, better than nothing. Camp host was very friendly! We'll be back😁

This was a cute place to spend the night on our road trip! It was easy to level our camper. The restrooms were clean and had hot showers, and they weren’t crowded. The camp host was so sweet and even guided us to our campsite on her bike!

This is a Corps of Engineers campground. With a federal Access or Senior pass, camping is half price. And who doesn't love that! I stayed during the winter. Plenty of quiet and solitude. Several long pull-thru sites. Back-in sites are long as well. All sites have plenty of space in between so you don't have to hear your neighbors flushing their toilet at 2am. The bathhouse was clean, private, and the water was very warm. The campground itself was very clean with minimal trash and cigarette butts on the ground. Sites have 50 amp electric and water. No sewer but the dump station is handy and extremely clean. The host was helpful and professional. A very nice man. The campground's road came up quickly. My GPS said I had to drive another mile, so be on the lookout. The correct road is well marked with a sign for the campground. If I ever make it back to Alabama, Jennings Ferry is at the top of my list.
