Blakeley

Overview

Historic Blakeley State Park is more than just a typical RV destination; it is a sprawling 2,000-acre landscape where deep Alabama history and rich natural beauty intersect. Located on the exact site of one of the Civil War’s final major battles, this park preserves the remnants of a once-thriving 19th-century town alongside a pristine delta ecosystem. It offers a peaceful, wooded setting for travelers looking to escape the bustle of heavy coastal tourism while remaining very close to the Mobile Bay area. Visitors often find that the combination of ancient forests and historic echoes creates a truly unique atmosphere unlike any other park in the region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Spanish Fort, Alabama, the park sits along the edges of the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, which is widely recognized as one of the most biodiverse regions in the country. The surroundings are characterized by ancient, moss-draped oaks and dramatic river vistas. Travelers will find themselves nestled in a secluded, natural environment that feels worlds away from the city, yet is conveniently located just a short drive from the modern amenities of the Eastern Shore and nearby Daphne.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV facilities here cater to modern travelers while maintaining the park's rustic charm. The park provides sites equipped with full hookups including water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electricity to accommodate various rig sizes. Guests have access to the following features:

  • Well-maintained bathhouses and laundry facilities for convenience.
  • An extensive network of over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails.
  • Scenic boardwalks and piers designed for birdwatching and photography.

These features ensure that while you are immersed in nature, you still have the essential comforts needed for a multi-day stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

History enthusiasts can spend days exploring miles of preserved Civil War fortifications and the archaeological site of the old town of Blakeley. For a different perspective, the park offers unique delta boat tours that navigate the complex waterways of the surrounding marshlands. Just a short drive across the bay, visitors can tour the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park or visit the diverse museums and historic districts of downtown Mobile, making this a perfect home base for exploring the Gulf Coast.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for history buffs and outdoor adventurers who prefer a quiet, educational atmosphere over high-energy RV resorts. It is a fantastic choice for those traveling with dogs or families who enjoy exploring forest trails and learning about local heritage in a living classroom. If you appreciate spacious, shaded campsites and the opportunity to live among the echoes of the past, Blakeley offers a serene and culturally rich Alabama experience.

Mound Island Cruise leaves from Live Oak Landing in Stockton, AL, but you book it here. Fantastic experience from Park Director Mike Bunn and crew. Had a wonderful time on January 24, 2026.

We had an amazing time at Blakely State Park! We stayed in the Kennedy Cabin, and it was super nice and very clean. The trails and scenery were absolutely beautiful, making every ride and walk feel like an experience, not just an activity. The staff truly stood out. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. When the heater in our cabin broke, they were on it immediately and had it repaired in less than an hour, which we really appreciated. The covered stalls were stellar, nicely built, and clearly designed with care and quality in mind. We can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend this park for anyone looking for great facilities, beautiful surroundings, and outstanding service!

Very nice park to walk, learn, camp, bike, etc. Clean restrooms. No trash. The RV area was s little loud until 1000PM but then it stopped. Thank you for quiet hours. Only minimal leveling is needed at some sites. I drove my 31 foot class A all the way to the river and had no issues. I'd be concerned if it was very crowded because that might prevent the rig from turning around but there a few places that are ample turn arounds with a short walk. The last 3/4 mile to the river is dirt.

Very peaceful, safe and quiet place to camp. Bath houses are brand new and very clean. Love riding the bicycles here, and there's so much to do in the surrounding areas. Gorgeous Mobile Bay is right in the background down by the Riverwalk. I could sit here all day.

Great place to visit with the family. Beautiful hiking and MTB trails. 4 stars because the map they hand out for the trails is not 100% accurate (use Strava or the trailforks app to navigate) and there were a few areas that still need repair. There was evidence of many repairs recently made, so I’m sure they are on schedule to be repaired soon. The RV sites are very nice. Ample parking and maneuvering space, relatively screened from adjacent sites. The park managers do a good job of spacing people out. :)

The park is very big with lots of trails to explore. Beware of spiders they are the most prevalent thing you will see, sometimes blocking paths. But other than that it is perfect. We'll kept. Wide variety of wildlife and plants. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to be out in nature with plenty of shade and beautiful sights. Bathrooms and trash cans are plentiful. Also historical things to see. Have fun!!

Beautiful park with TONS of history. Trails throughout the park with lots of bike trails, horse trails and walking trails. The view of the sunset near the kayak launch is absolutely beautiful. Staff is also very friendly and campsites are well kept with clean bathrooms and showers on site. Well worth the visit!

Wonderful spot. We only spent one night, but enjoyed it very much. Very quiet with friendly respectful guests. We mostly saw tent campers. We were in a class B camper van. Looks of thick woods. The terrific lady that came out to welcome us at the entrance really knew her stuff and was so friendly. Make reservations on line.

It's such a lovely state park with so much history! It is very well maintained and I can't wait to camp here! The walking trails are very nicely marked to let you know if they are hiker/bike/horse safe. The staff was very friendly and helpful and also provided us with a map. I have more trips planned and can't wait to come back!
