Blue Mountain Lake - COE/Outlet Area

Overview

Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Outlet Area at Blue Mountain Lake offers a tranquil retreat for travelers seeking a deep connection with the natural beauty of Arkansas. Located at the base of the dam, this park serves as a gateway to the Petit Jean River and the expansive waters of the lake. It is known for its peaceful atmosphere and scenic vistas, making it a preferred stop for those who value quiet evenings under the stars over bustling resort activities.

Location & Surroundings

Set near the town of Havana, AR, the park is nestled in the valley between the majestic Ozark and Ouachita National Forests. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the proximity of Mount Magazine, the highest point in the state, which provides a dramatic backdrop to the campground. The lush forests and clear river waters create a secluded environment that feels worlds away from the city, yet remains accessible for modern RVers.

Amenities & Park Features

The Outlet Area provides essential amenities designed for comfort in a rustic setting. Travelers will find well-maintained campsites that cater to various rig sizes. Key features include:

  • Sites equipped with electric and water hookups for convenience.
  • A dedicated boat ramp providing easy access to the river.
  • A playground area and clean vault toilets for guest use.

These features allow visitors to enjoy the wilderness without sacrificing the basic needs of the RV lifestyle.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw of this area is the world-class fishing opportunities, with anglers frequently hauling in crappie, bass, and catfish. Just a short drive away, Mount Magazine State Park offers premier hiking trails, rock climbing, and hang gliding for the more adventurous traveler. Birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts will find plenty to observe within the surrounding national forest lands, while the lake itself is perfect for kayaking or leisurely boat tours along the shoreline.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for budget-conscious RVers who enjoy the simplicity of COE campgrounds. It is particularly well-suited for nature photographers and anglers who want to be steps away from the water. If you prefer a quiet, low-key environment where the sounds of the forest take center stage, the Outlet Area provides the perfect home base. It is best for those with self-contained units who prioritize scenic views and outdoor recreation over luxury amenities.

I am in absolute love with place. First time me and the family got to get together in a while and we picked here. So glad that we did beautiful views and super friendly workers. The kids had an absolute blast fishing and swimming and we were so close to the play ground and the spillway that it was easy to keep all the kids busy and having fun. We did have to drive a little ways to go swimming but it was well worth it because they have a beautiful beach area for the family

Good fishing when the water in down. Some of the best views in the area. Blue mountain lake has always been a wonderful place to fish and camp. Or just go spend a relaxing afternoon and maybe have a picnic. Try and visit when you can it's a hidden gem.

Outstanding!!!!! We have stayed at several Corps of Engineers campgrounds and this is definitely the best yet!!!!! Quiet, peaceful, serene.... Nestled in a beautiful little valley on the banks of the Petit Jean River. The babble of the river flowing over the rocks is so calming and wonderful. (and about the only sound except birds singing) The sites are well laid out and nicely spaced...not crammed together. As always with Corps sites, cheap price for the site.... with water and electric included. Shower house clean & well maintained - free HOT showers, a real blessing when camping. Staff was friendly & welcoming & helpful. Cannot say enough good stuff about the Outlet Campground at Blue Mountain Lake

Great campgrounds, clean restroom and showers. Had a really good time. And the fishing not to shabby either.
