Blue Rocks Family Campground

Overview

Blue Rocks Family Campground offers a unique getaway set against the backdrop of 125 acres of pristine Pennsylvania forest. Located at the base of Blue Mountain, the park is famous for its namesake Blue Rocks boulder field, a stunning glacial deposit that provides a dramatic landscape for visitors. This isn't your typical roadside stop; it is an immersive nature experience where the sights and sounds of the woods take center stage for a peaceful camping retreat.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the heart of Berks County near Lenhartsville, the campground provides easy access to some of the most scenic terrain in the state. The property is a hiker’s paradise, as it directly borders the Appalachian Trail, making it a premier destination for those who want to lace up their boots and explore the mountain ridges. The dense forest canopy provides ample shade throughout the park, creating a cool and secluded environment that feels worlds away from the city.

Amenities & Park Features

The park balances rustic charm with essential conveniences to ensure a comfortable stay. Travelers can choose from a range of sites, including full hookup RV pads and more secluded primitive spots. On-site facilities include a well-stocked camp store, a refreshing swimming pool, and multiple playgrounds for children. For those who enjoy active recreation, the extensive hiking trail network within the park leads directly to the massive boulder fields and breathtaking mountain overlooks that define the property.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the campground borders, guests can explore the famous Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, which is a world-renowned site for observing bird migrations and enjoying panoramic views. Families often take a short drive to explore the underground wonders of Crystal Cave or visit the massive Cabela's outfitters in nearby Hamburg for outdoor gear. The region is rich in Pennsylvania Dutch culture, offering a unique mix of local history and rural charm just minutes away from your campsite.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for travelers who prioritize natural beauty and hiking over modern resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect fit for families looking to disconnect from screens and reconnect with the great outdoors. My family LOVES BLUE ROCKS!! We camp at Blue Rocks whenever we can find the time. The other campers that we’ve met have always been friendly and respectful, the bathrooms/ showers are comfortable and well maintained. We hike the beautifully maintained and appropriately challenging trails that take you to lookout points on the Appalachian Trail- the blue trail is very doable and the yellow is more challenging (quite steep at times!) but worth it. Our kids are so proud, happy, and ready to chill by the time we return! In the summer, we hit up the pool and Woody’s restaurant and in the colder months we hang by our fire and usually get to know a neighbor. The playground and general store are available and well kept. The staff is always friendly and on task. We always feel like we are in nature and in friendly community. My only problem with Blue Rocks is that it has set a high bar that I can’t seem to find elsewhere!

Absolutely love it! Highly recommended 100%. Great time as always stayed week in July and this past weekend. Several years renting cabin. Many in the rustic cabin by the pond and loved it and tried out Arrow Head cabin and loved it. So peaceful and beautiful. Cabins are very well kept clean. Everyone working there is so nice. Looking forward to next time getting ready to book next stay ♥️

Blue rocks is an amazing campground. It's a very unique place. It has a Boulder Field it has a giant glacier field as well as incredible hiking trails that ultimately connect to the Appalachian trail. One of the most family-friendly campgrounds around. Rangers Sue is vigilant and has no mercy for excess noise and unruly campers. The owners are also super friendly and helpful once they let me charge my dead battery in their automotive garage. We love this place so much we got a seasonal site.

We love staying at the Blue Rocks campground during Halloween time! Our kids love trick-or-treating and the costume contests. Everyone is so friendly! The camp sites are spread out perfectly - we can see other people but we still feel like we have our privacy. And the rocks are absolutely beautiful!!

I’ll unpack the pros and cons for you, but the bottom line is that there are much better campgrounds out there. Pros- the blue rocks formation is cool, the campground is located along a hiking trail that’s scenic at the top, the Arrowhead Point cottages were newer and clean, there is a nice spot for a group around the Arrowhead cottages. Cons- the campground has narrow, rocky dirt roads that aren’t well-marked for nighttime so it’s easy to get lost. Two cars can’t pass, so one has to pull over to the side which sometimes has a ditch where I damaged my car). The newer Arrowhead cabins have no stove and only a mini-fridge. The fishing hole is a puddle. The arcade is sad. Despite this, we laughed a lot and had a great time. We had such a great time that at 9:30 pm on a Saturday night, the park ranger came and told us we were too loud, when no one was near us and quiet time is 11 p.m.!!!! We will not be back.

Very easy check in and check out. If you like nature and not a ton of frills this is a great campground. There's hiking and all the blue rocks.

Great place. Staff is awesome, really nice people. Family oriented campground. We stayed in cabin #5 when it was reading -1°F outside (wind chill included), inside we were at a nice 70°F. With the help of a space heater. They have bundles of wood for sale at the office aswell as everything that one needs for camping. Gotta check it out in the peak season. A must do again.

We went at the beginning of the off-season. Unfortunately nothing was open (pool, restaurant, ice cream bar) but that was to be expected this time of year. The boulder field is cool. Not particularly easy to traverse, but very pretty. If you have a big camper like us (28 ft) scout ahead and figure out what direction you need to be driving. It seemed like a lot of sites run parallel to the road, not perpendicular to it, so you need to be headed in the right direction. Also the dump station in the back of the campground by the boulder field was easier to set up at than the one towards the front of the campground. All in all not a bad place, but I can't comment to it for in season.
