Boise/Park Creek

Overview

Park Creek Campground offers a serene escape within the vast expanse of the Boise National Forest. Located at a higher elevation near Lowman, this destination provides a classic mountain camping experience characterized by towering ponderosa pines and lush summer meadows. It is a place where the sound of the wind through the trees replaces the noise of the city, making it a premier choice for those seeking a genuine connection with nature in the heart of Idaho.

Location & Surroundings

The campground is situated along the banks of Park Creek, just a short distance from the South Fork Payette River. The surrounding landscape is a dramatic blend of rugged mountain peaks and dense forest, offering breathtaking views in every direction. Its proximity to the Wildlife Canyon Scenic Byway makes the journey to the park as visually stunning as the destination itself, with frequent sightings of elk, deer, and other local wildlife common throughout the area.

Amenities & Park Features

As a traditional forest service site, the focus here is on primitive camping rather than modern luxury. The park features well-spaced sites that allow for a degree of privacy rarely found in commercial resorts. Key features include:

  • Sturdy picnic tables and fire rings provided at every individual site.
  • Accessible vault toilets located centrally within the campground loops.
  • Potable water available via a seasonal hand pump for guest use.

While there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups, the natural layout accommodates various rig sizes. RVers should arrive with full fresh water tanks and charged batteries to fully enjoy the off-grid experience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. Only a few miles away, Kirkham Hot Springs offers a chance to soak in natural geothermal pools along the riverbank. Anglers will find excellent trout fishing opportunities in the nearby South Fork Payette River, while hikers can explore a network of trails that wind through the surrounding wilderness. For those who enjoy water sports, the river is also a popular destination for world-class whitewater rafting and kayaking.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for self-contained RVers who appreciate a quiet, off-grid experience far from the amenities of a paved resort. It is a perfect fit for families looking to introduce their children to a traditional camping lifestyle and for photographers wanting to capture Idaho's raw mountain beauty. If you value privacy, fresh mountain air, and starry nights over high-speed internet and utility connections, this forest gem is the right choice for your next adventure.

It was amazing! Nice, private campground with a bridge entrance and easy access to Clear Creek to take a dip in the nice, cool and clear mountain water! I would highly recommend! Restrooms are kind of low-rent (vault) but there's plenty of toilet paper and the US Forestry Service comes by and checks on everything quite often, so it's extremely comfortable and peaceful and just perfect! There's also quick access to the mountain trails to ride UTVs and ATVs too! 😁🤙🏼

We rented this Campground out a few years ago for our wedding. Absolutely fantastic location! Beautiful monsterous trees in a quiet location. Nice clean bathrooms and facilities seem to be well kept. No running water but there was a hand pump
