Bonner County Fairgrounds Campground
Overview
The Bonner County Fairgrounds Campground offers a straightforward and practical camping experience for those visiting the scenic Panhandle of Idaho. Situated just north of downtown Sandpoint, this facility provides a reliable landing spot for travelers who value proximity to local events and natural wonders. While it lacks the frills of a luxury resort, it serves as an excellent hub for North Idaho adventures, offering a clean and safe environment for short-term and seasonal visitors alike.
Location & Surroundings
You will find the park nestled between the vibrant community of Sandpoint and the shopping corridors of Ponderay. The campground is framed by the stunning backdrop of the Selkirk and Cabinet Mountains, providing a constant reminder of the wilderness nearby. Its location is ideal for those wanting to be minutes away from the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, one of the deepest and largest lakes in the Pacific Northwest, known for its crystal-clear waters.
Amenities & Park Features
The sites are primarily gravel and offer plenty of room for larger rigs. Most sites feature water and electric hookups, and there is a centralized dump station available for guest use on the premises. The facility includes basic restroom and shower buildings, which are maintained to support both fairground events and daily campers. Travelers will appreciate the level parking pads and the wide-open layout that makes maneuvering big rigs and fifth wheels relatively simple compared to more wooded, tight campgrounds.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure seekers are perfectly positioned to explore Schweitzer Mountain, which offers world-class skiing in the winter and scenic chairlift rides and mountain biking in the summer. Downtown Sandpoint is just a short drive away, featuring the popular City Beach, eclectic art galleries, and local breweries. For those who enjoy being on the water, the nearby public boat launches provide easy access for boating, fishing, and kayaking across the expansive Pend Oreille river system.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is an ideal choice for budget-conscious RVers who want to explore the region without the high costs of private lakefront resorts. It is also a top pick for families attending the Bonner County Fair or regional equestrian events. If you prefer a utilitarian home base that places you near the heart of Sandpoint’s outdoor recreation and local dining, this park fits your travel style perfectly.

Nice campground, water and electric. Covered Pavillion for our group. Bathrooms with showers. Some train noise and nearby municipal airport, but not that intrusive.

Great family venue!

I used the RV dump site. Very convenient. The hose is cracked and sprays all over you. Be careful until they replace it. I got a biiiiit wet.

Can't really say for sure about other events, but the Sandpoint Renaissance Faire at the fairgrounds is amazing. Lots of vendors, the Seattle Knights, and other performers put on great shows for young and old. Oh, and don't forget your turkey legs.

Fun for the family. Lots of folks into the spirit with dressing the part. Would like to have seen more artisan vendors like pottery and textiles, more homemade wares.

Great place to have a party. The local cops were not friendly. They were actually rude.

It was a great place to hold the Carousel of Smiles Event 👍

Trains, planes and automobiles- if you like the sound of these this is your spot. Good showers, small clean campsites. If you can manage the noise (it is continuous) this place is good for a night or two.

The airstrip is very close with planes coming and going starting at 7:00 am ! A flight school so they circle and land all day! Terrible bathrooms, no one came to clean them the whole 6 nights we were there, very unhealthy. A very noisy place with dirty bathrooms.Grounds are nice and central location but don’t expect a peaceful morning cup of coffee! We stayed in site #7., August 2024

Very nice RV and tenting campground here. They do not have sewer hookups, but there is power and water. One facility for restrooms and showers for the whole camp, and there are very clean and well maintained. Camp hosts are nice, and available if needed. The area is slightly off the main drag, but that actually is a plus, because it's nice and quiet in the evenings. A lot of young families were enjoying the property, and all were very well behaved and courteous. We would certainly stay here again. This is a beautiful area to visit...
