Brigham Park (Dane County Park)

Overview

Brigham Park offers a serene escape on the western edge of Dane County, encompassing 232 acres of historic and scenic land. Named after the first permanent settler in the county, this park is widely celebrated for its panoramic views of the Wisconsin River Valley. Unlike bustling commercial campgrounds, this park provides a peaceful environment where the focus remains on the natural beauty of the Driftless Area and the spectacular sunsets that paint the horizon each evening from its high-elevation vantage point.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, the park sits atop a high ridge that escaped the carving of the last glaciers. This unique Driftless Area topography creates a landscape of rolling hills and deep valleys that are distinct to this region. The park is surrounded by lush woodlands and prairie restorations, offering a quiet atmosphere that feels miles away from civilization while remaining conveniently accessible from Highway 151 and a short drive from the city of Madison.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features an intimate campground with 25 sites, many of which provide electric hookups for RV travelers looking for a comfortable stay. While the facilities maintain a rustic charm, offering pit toilets and hand pumps for water, the spacious sites and nature trails make it a favorite for those who prioritize space and scenery. Visitors can also enjoy a large timber-frame shelter, a children's playground, and well-maintained picnic areas shaded by a magnificent group of heritage oaks.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Just a short walk or drive away is the famous Cave of the Mounds, a National Natural Landmark offering stunning underground tours. Outdoor enthusiasts can easily access the Military Ridge State Trail, which offers 40 miles of biking and hiking through the countryside. Additionally, Blue Mound State Park is nearby for further exploration, while the nearby village of Mount Horeb provides a whimsical stop with its famous troll-themed main street and local eateries.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for RVers who prefer a quiet, nature-focused experience over a resort setting. It is a perfect match for nature photographers, bird watchers, and travelers seeking a peaceful home base to explore southwest Wisconsin. Because of its limited amenities and lack of on-site showers, it best suits self-contained travelers who appreciate dramatic landscapes, dark skies for stargazing, and a slower pace of life during their journey.

we had to switch sites with another camper, no biggie. the host was very nice. we camped there to be close to mount horeb. it's close. the view there is stunning! fireflies in the prairie! my daughter and future son in law had a pre wedding get together and with us camping there my daughter's HS bestie was also there, they had a blast Saturday night reminiscing and getting tipsy,my heart was full. I figured oh my were going to get talked to about them getting tipsy and we didn't! the neighbor site understood it was reunion of sorts. what I'm getting at is we didn't feel like the employees of the campgrounds were judging us or constantly keeping tabs on us. if I had to say one negative thing about it I would say umm umm there's no dumping site, even that isn't a big deal since you can go to other parks to dump waste.

Beautiful, peaceful getaway close to Madison and other places with fun tourist activities. The trails are well maintained, easy to walk, and quite near the campground. Very friendly park rangers and camp hosts helped me resolve an issue with my reservation. Beautiful prairie/meadow and wooded areas. Safe, neat playground and generously sized campsites each with a fire ring. The only area with room for improvement would be installing flush toilets or perhaps treating the vault waste more frequently, as the odor was unpleasant.

We only explored a portion of this park. We walked a trail across the street and it was a wonderful hike with a mixture of prairie and forest with some excellent views. Definitely going back to see more.

Brigham County Park, in Dane County WI, west of Madison, and near Mt Horeb & Cave of the Mounds in Wisconsin's Driftless Area has always been my favorite county park in the USA since discovering it as a university student around 1970. It has a small campground, picnic area and even smaller playground. On a clear day, the views to the north into the Wisconsin River valley are stunning, and even better during autumn. Nearby areas are filled with contour-plowed and planted corn fields, dairy farms and other spectacular sights. It's a great basecamp for visiting Cave of the Mounds, Bluemound State Park, House on the Rock, Epic Intergalactic Headquarters, Taliesin and so much more by car.

The park has a small campground. It’s a very quiet location. The pit toilets are well maintained and clean. There are a couple of walking paths you can access from the park. One of them leads to Cave of the Mounds which is only a mile away.

I almost don't want to share how much I like this little gem. The park, camp ground, play ground, bike path, walking trails are all great and well-maintained. The area is BEAUTIFUL. I also love running and biking from this location into the hiking/off-road biking trails that extend West into the Blue Mounds State Park, and the roads around this driftless area are "Horribly Hilly" and offer stunning views.

Great place to take the little ones. Great views for the adults, playground, (level/easy) trails, camping and shelters for gatherings. Seriously, some of the best views in (near) Dane County - had no idea we had such high ground here.

It was great, but the 6am garbage pickup wasn't. It was a good thing I needed to be up early. Thanks for the wakeup call, I guess...
