Brookville Lake
Overview
Brookville Lake offers a premier destination for RVers seeking a mix of water-based recreation and wooded tranquility in southeastern Indiana. Encompassing over 5,000 acres of water, the lake is flanked by the Mounds and Quakertown State Recreation Areas. This destination is managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and provides a well-maintained environment where the focus is on connecting with nature. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a longer seasonal stay, the park provides a classic state park experience with expansive views and diverse habitats.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just north of the historic town of Brookville, IN, the lake sits in the scenic Whitewater River Valley. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, limestone outcrops, and dense hardwood forests that come alive with color during the autumn months. Accessing the park is straightforward for larger rigs, with well-paved roads leading into both the Mounds and Quakertown areas. Its proximity to the Ohio border makes it a popular choice for regional travelers seeking a quick escape from nearby metropolitan areas like Cincinnati or Indianapolis.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground at Mounds SRA is the primary hub for RVers, offering over 300 sites. Most sites feature 30 and 50-amp electrical hookups. Facilities include:
- Modern comfort stations with hot showers and flush toilets.
- A full-service marina at Kent’s Harbor for boat rentals and fuel.
- Accessible dump stations and fresh water fill points for self-contained rigs.
Families often appreciate the on-site camp store and playgrounds, while the northern Quakertown SRA provides a more secluded atmosphere for those seeking quiet.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities, from boating and jet skiing on the open water to exploring the 25-mile Adena Trace hiking trail. Fishing is a major draw here, with the lake being renowned for its walleye and striped bass populations. Just a short drive away, visitors can step back in time at the Historic Metamora canal town, which features a working grist mill and horse-drawn canal boats. Additionally, the nearby Whitewater River is a favorite for those interested in canoeing or tubing through the gentle Indiana countryside.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for active families and water sports enthusiasts who want a base camp that provides direct access to the lake. Because of the spacious sites and paved pads in certain sections, it is also highly suitable for big-rig travelers who value easy navigation and reliable power. If your ideal vacation involves morning fishing trips followed by afternoon hikes and evening campfires under a dark sky, Brookville Lake offers the perfect balance of recreation and relaxation in a beautiful natural setting.

It’s beautiful no matter what time of you go, but sun up and sun down are hands down the most beautiful!

Beach and grounds were well taken care of and clean. Water was great and we had a lovely evening at Mounds beach ❤️

The beach was clean, calming and a nice place to enjoy. I'm surprised the beach wasn't busier but made for a great visit. However, the bathrooms and shower house need upgraded badly. The showers were awful and didn't spray well at all and it looked like they're not been properly cleaned in weeks if not months. I also wish there were more spots to have a picnic. When we were there a large family seemed to be having a party and had moved every table under their tent leaving none for everyone else. The employees didn't seem to say anything about it either.

Great place for families. The beach can get crowded but overall it is easy to find a spot to set up. They have a wonderful pavilion with all the snacks or drinks you'd need in case you run out or forget your own. They have a safety zone making it easy with kids and not worrying about boats coming through. Even on crowded days there is enough parking and the furthest back spots are still manageable to walk from for the average person. They have ramps making it easily accessible for those with wheelchairs, strollers, or wagons. Overall a fantastic experience.

We had a great time! It was so hot out that despite being a lake I swam my heart out! I’m for sure going back. My family loves the water, sand and being together!

If you want to take your pet just know they aren’t allowed on the beach. They have zero signs about it until you’re right by the water but the park rangers or whoever they are will make you move to the grassy area. I didn’t see anything about it on the website so just a heads up if you want to bring your furry friend with you. You can bring them but be prepared to stay in the grassy area. It’s a nice beach. Seems to be pretty popular!

It's close to Cincinnati and it is just a nice place to bring your family for the day. I suggest staying till sunset and going about a mile down the road to the dam and watching it from there! Prettiest Sunset ever seen including tropical places I've been to throughout my life!
