Overview

Camp Sula offers a classic Montana getaway nestled in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley. This destination serves as a welcoming hub for travelers exploring the scenic corridor between Missoula and Salmon, Idaho. Known for its historic character and friendly atmosphere, the park provides a blend of traditional camping and modern convenience. It is more than just a place to park; it is a gateway to the rugged wilderness that defines the Big Sky State.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated along Highway 93, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Bitterroot National Forest. The location is famous for being near the site where Lewis and Clark met the Salish people at Ross’ Hole. Nature is the primary neighbor here, with the East Fork of the Bitterroot River flowing nearby, offering a tranquil backdrop for visitors. The high-altitude air and dense pine forests create a refreshing environment for those looking to escape the heat of the plains.

Amenities & Park Features

Camp Sula caters to RVers with a variety of site options, including full hookup sites that accommodate larger rigs. Beyond the pads, the park features a well-stocked general store and a popular on-site restaurant known for its home-style cooking. Families often enjoy the mini-golf course and playground, while those seeking a break from the road appreciate the clean bathhouse and laundry facilities. The park also maintains several cabins for those traveling without an RV.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities within a short drive. Just up the road is Lost Trail Powder Mountain, a favorite for winter sports, and the adjacent Chief Joseph Pass for cross-country skiing. During the summer, visitors flock to the Big Hole National Battlefield to learn about local history or spend their days fly fishing on the river. Hiking trails abound in the nearby wilderness, offering everything from easy strolls to challenging climbs.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for outdoor adventurers and history buffs who want a basecamp close to nature without sacrificing essential comforts. It is a perfect fit for families looking for a structured environment with activities like mini-golf, as well as anglers and hikers seeking quick access to the Bitterroot River and forest trails. We found and booked this campground through Hipcamp. The host’s communications were excellent. Our site was perfect for our camper van. The bathroom facilities were very clean and in very good condition. The hot water and water pressure were the best we’ve had on our journey. We would definitely recommend this campground to others.

My wife and I discovered Camp Sula while RVing in Idaho and Montana. We have been staying here now for 3 years twice a year and it is our favorite RV Park. The RV Park grounds are kept clean with no trash around and the restrooms are very clean. The owners husband is out every morning keeping things in good order. There is plenty to do around Sula. Fly fishing, sightseeing and Darby is only a few short miles away. We will continue to come to Camp Sula.

My wife and stay at Camp Sula several times a year. We have had nothing but a pleasant experience. The RV Park is clean and and the owners go out of their way to keep it that way. The restrooms are immaculate and if necessary you could eat off the floor. No trash laying about and sites are raked several times per week. Lots to see and do around Sula. Fly fishing, sightseeing and small towns close by. We will continue to visit Camp Sula.

We had a delightful stay . We stayed in the rv park for 11 nights , and then switched to a cabin when our rv needed a repair . Everything is well kept and very clean . Highly recommend! Wendy & her husband provide safety , cleanliness and much to enjoy . Make sure you grab a homemade treat or ten from the store ! Great selection on shirts and gifts to boot . Great deli sandwiches. Feeding the fish is so much fun for all ages of you are a guest. Perfection inside Simplicity

Beautiful campground! We stayed here with some friends and were all impressed. It is the cleanest campground I’ve ever stayed in. The landscaping is perfectly tended to. Just the right amount of sun and shade. Lovely store with anything you need including Montana gifts. Definitely coming back.

Great location and beautiful mountains. Wendy has everything you need in the store, while her husband has the grounds and bathrooms and cabins immaculate. Peaceful place for a night, week, or longer because the fools stay with each other 3' away in the upper bitterroot valley. And you have your choice for fly fishing on the east fork of the bitterroot river because the others think all the trout stay further north in the crowded river. Great place for a family reunion year after year of you enjoy the beautiful mountains and the real Montana sky is here, with no city lights. A Gem, don't ruin it for me. Bill & Annee

Great little campground on the creek. We camped here in a 20 ft camper with full hook up and a nice fire pit in late Sept. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest we've found. The little store has a variety of snacks and drinks, and you can fill up with gas if needed.

We needed to temporarily relocate our little camper home for a few weeks last fall, and we ended up staying at Camp Sula during that time. Though the length of our stay was uncertain and kept getting pushed out longer, the owners were nonetheless very accommodating and were kind enough to work around our unknown schedule. They were more than happy to allow our 3 dogs to come to the camp, as well. In addition to all of that, one of the owners was in the midst of a medical emergency during that time, but she continued to be communicative and professional throughout our stay, never skipping a beat. Above and beyond, I’d say. Their Rice Krispies treats are pretty tasty, too.

Quiet and peaceful rv camping along the river. Level site, space with camp rings, tables, and hookups. Clean bathrooms and great showers. Wonderful caretakers on site with friendly recommendations. Hiking and exploring nearby. Perfect place to pause.

We had a reservation for Dec 22. Our elderly dad fell and broke his femur on the 21st and we had to return home. We called on the 21st to cancel the reservation and nobody answered so we left a message. We called several times on the 22nd , no answer and no return call. But of course they still charged out credit card. Our dad passed away from his injuries, had we not left we wouldn't have got to see him before he died. Enjoy that $141 and maybe answer you phone and return messages. We will never stay here again and will drive to Darby for all other business we use to provide .
