Campfire Lodgings

Overview

Campfire Lodgings offers a distinct mountain escape perched high above the surrounding valleys just north of downtown Asheville. Known for its spectacular ridge-top views, this park provides a peaceful alternative to standard roadside campgrounds by focusing on the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge region. The property spans over 100 acres of private forest, ensuring that visitors experience a sense of seclusion and tranquility while remaining close to modern urban conveniences. It is an excellent choice for those looking to immerse themselves in the North Carolina wilderness.

Location & Surroundings

Located on Goldview Road, the park sits at a high elevation that overlooks the winding French Broad River. The environment is characterized by rugged mountain terrain and dense hardwoods, providing plenty of shade and cooler temperatures during the summer months. Despite its secluded feel, the park is only about seven miles from the center of Asheville, offering the perfect balance between a remote retreat and a convenient home base for city exploration. The surrounding area is a gateway to the Appalachian landscape, featuring rolling hills and panoramic vistas.

Amenities & Park Features

The park accommodates a variety of camping styles with specialized sections designed to maximize the scenery. Many travelers seek out the premium cliff-side sites, which offer unobstructed views of the valley below. Most sites are equipped with full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity, along with level pads to simplify setup. On-site amenities include clean bathhouses, laundry facilities, and a fenced-in dog park for furry travelers. Additionally, the property features private hiking trails that allow guests to explore the forested ridges without ever needing to leave the grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Being so close to Asheville, guests have easy access to the world-renowned Biltmore Estate and the vibrant Arts District. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just a short drive away, providing endless opportunities for scenic drives, photography, and high-altitude hiking. For those who enjoy water sports, the French Broad River offers excellent spots for kayaking, tubing, and fishing. After a day of outdoor adventure, visitors can head into town to experience Asheville’s famous craft brewery scene and diverse culinary offerings, making it easy to transition from nature to culture.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for RVers who prioritize quiet and scenic beauty over high-energy resort amenities like swimming pools or splash pads. It is particularly well-suited for couples, solo travelers, and nature enthusiasts who want a sophisticated and serene environment. Because the park emphasizes a peaceful atmosphere, it is a favorite for those seeking a serene mountain retreat where the primary entertainment is the sunset over the peaks. It is a top choice for travelers who want to experience the best of the Blue Ridge Mountains in a well-maintained, respectful setting.

Perfect spot to camp and drive into town. Host is super friendly. Bought wood from then and they stacked it at the campsite for us while we were out. Wonderful views from campsite. Paved and level campsite with water, electric and sewage. Definitely would stay here again for another Ashville visit.

Beautiful campground with incredible views, and Tina was great to work with. Our 45’ toy hauler 5th wheel with Ram 3500 dually measures over 60’ total wasn’t able to navigate the turn into our assigned spot so Tina worked with us found us an alternate one that was easy to get into. The campground is tight for a big rig like ours, but it’s possible if you are a really skilled and confident driver. Also many reviews mention being afraid of the road up but it was easy and follow their advice to make sure you keep moving on last steep curve into campground. Our tires spun on wet leaves (it was raining) but we made it no problem. Turnaround is tight but no problems using it twice. Overall a week to remember visiting Asheville. We will be back!

The campground was well maintained and the bathrooms and laundry facilities were clean. The campsites were ample and level and the sites overlooking the mountain had beautiful views of the mountains! The staff were friendly and helpful. The road into the campground can be challenging to larger rigs but it’s not a problem if you take it slow.

This is our second time staying at campfire. Seems the campground is under new ownership. Hosts were great and friendly, but the bath house (3 bathrooms) needs some updating and will need additional with the new section open. Don't stay in D13 unless you want acorns sounding like gun shots on your roof the whole time.

Took my travel trailer there for a few nights. Great place. Awesome views. Full hookups and just all around nice area to visit. Kind and friendly staff. Always ready and happy to help. Would definitely consider visiting again.

They a new section with concrete pads bu they are not level at all. At least most of them are not. Some they won’t put a motorhome on because impossible to level so trailers only. We have d to use a lot of wood and still not level. One lane road steep and 180 degree turns. Very dusty. There maybe 10 lots that are really nice with views and concrete level. They are the premium lots. If you can’t get one I wouldn’t book as a motorhome. There are some nice views because it sits on top of a mountain. The caretaker was very nice and sympathetic. Tried to get us more level lot but some were even worse

10/10 dog friendly campground. We've stayed at Campfire Lodgings several times now car camping over the past decade and it continues to be one of our favorite spots near Asheville. It’s not super remote, which makes it easy to get to and close to town, but you still get a great sense of privacy at each campsite. The sites are nicely spaced and tucked into the landscape, so even with neighbors nearby, it never feels crowded. The views are absolutely lovely...especially at sunset - and the quiet, peaceful atmosphere keeps us coming back. The campground is clean and well-maintained, with convenient amenities like bathrooms and trash receptacles. Even though it's not deep in the wilderness, be bear aware! It's still mountain territory, so keep food stored properly and follow campground guidelines. Campfire Lodgings is the perfect balance between accessibility, comfort, and natural beauty. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing mountain escape without giving up basic conveniences.

Beautiful location with awesome hosts and so close to Asheville!!! Driveway up is a bit longer than you would expect, but they have encouraging signs going up all of the way! Bones, one of the hosts was especially helpful and willing to jump in with answers even off duty. The tent camping spots are perfect even for big tents and the bathrooms are very well maintained

Great little campground with a good view of the valley below. A bit of a narrow drive up to the campsite but take your time and it's no sweat. Service is top notch and they can even fill your propane at the campground. This one is also pretty close to Asheville and plenty of local markets within a short drive.
