Canyon Campground
Overview
Canyon Campground is situated in the heart of Yellowstone National Park, serving as a primary base for visitors looking to explore the park's central plateau. Managed by the National Park Service, this site offers a traditional, rustic camping experience within a dense forest setting. It is the largest campground in the park, providing a convenient home base for travelers who want to be centrally located while surrounded by the raw, natural beauty of Wyoming's wilderness.
Location & Surroundings
Located near the iconic Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, the campground provides quick access to major park roads. The area is defined by its lodgepole pine forest, offering a serene atmosphere that feels disconnected from the bustle of park entrances. Because it is located near the central hub of Canyon Village, guests are positioned perfectly to navigate toward the north, south, east, or west loops of the park with ease.
Amenities & Park Features
As a national park facility, Canyon Campground focuses on natural simplicity. While it does not offer full utility hookups, it is RV-friendly and features pull-through sites that can accommodate larger vehicles. Amenities include communal fire grates, picnic tables, and access to public restrooms with flush toilets. Guests should prepare for a dry camping experience, as potable water and dump stations are available nearby within the village area to assist with maintenance needs.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The campground is a gateway to some of Yellowstone's most impressive geological wonders. Guests are only a short drive from the breathtaking Lower Falls and the dramatic vistas of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Wildlife enthusiasts often spot elk wandering through the vicinity of the village. For those seeking convenience, the nearby Canyon Village complex provides access to visitor centers, dining options, and supply stores to restock essential items during a longer park stay.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for the nature-focused traveler who prioritizes location over luxury resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for families or photographers who want to minimize driving time to the park's primary geological landmarks. If you are an RVer who enjoys a quiet, woodland environment and values being right in the middle of the action, Canyon Campground provides an unparalleled base for a classic Yellowstone adventure.

Canyon Campground, Yellowstone National Park, WY Very nice campground with multiple loops. Tent camping loops separate from the RV loops. Tent camping loops are closer to the showers in a separate building, grocery & tourist stuff store, , Visitor Center and post office . RV loops have many pull through sites. Tall pines throughout the campground. A great central location within Yellowstone park. Recycling available.

Decent campground. Nothing special other than being in Yellowstone NP. Sites were clean and spacious. All roads we were on were paved. Check in was easy enough and the gentleman at the desk was friendly and informative. No electric or water at our site. I66 was our site and the neighbor's weren't to close. Elevation here is around 8k foot so it does get cold and windy. We stayed in middle September and had lows of 30deg. We stayed 2 nights and everyone in our group received one shower. Showers are really dated and all the stalls are small. If you forget your towel you can get one for $1.55 each and showers cost $5.85 each. There was a laundromat there as well. Across the road in Canyon village you can find fodd and supplies if needed butexpect to pay double the normal cost. Gas is nearby at an inflated price as well.

We are a senior couple and spent 4 nights in our minivan and tent. We loved it! Canyon Village is perfectly located in the middle of Yellowstone. Canyon Campground has clean, convenient restrooms, showers and laundry. There are all the amenities you need very nearby.

We stayed here for five nights at the end of July and really enjoyed our visit. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the location was ideal—close to Canyon Village and its amenities, with Yellowstone Canyon even within walking distance. It was also a good central location for the hikes we wanted to do. Our only small gripe was that our campsite sat on a noticeable slope, including the tent area, which meant our sleeping bags slowly migrated downhill during the night. Still, the setting, convenience, and friendly atmosphere far outweighed that minor issue, and we’d gladly stay here again.

We stayed 3 nights tent camping and had a wonderful stay. The tent sites are pretty close together. I booked a 12x12 site and was worried our 10x14 tent wouldn't fit but it fit with extra room no issue. We stayed at B33 and it was right behind the check in office/showers so it made it nice just having a short walk to the showers in the morning. They do give you 2 free showers per day and kids 5 and under are free. Campground was quiet at night. The day of check out our son locked the keys in the car, the office employee was helpful getting me in contact with the repair shop/gas station right down the road and got someone out within 15min to unlock our car, which cost $145. We would definitely stay here again.

⛺️ Spacious camp layouts. Easy to find your private corner. Shower was closed due to COVID, but the laundry and general store is still open. The store provides a little bit of everything which is very convenient. We loved our little spot and really enjoyed our stay! ❤️ Check-in counter has very friendly staffs. Joy told us where to find grizzly bear and we did see them!

Excellent layout. Space between each campsite was generous. Every campsite had a HUGE food storage cupboard. Each tents-only loop has 2 bathrooms, numerous fresh water supply, and a dishes cleaning station. A wonderful experience!

This place was AWESOME! If you're looking for a spot to camp, look no further. I wish it was closer to home. Unfortunately I'll never be here again.

June 2021. Nice Campground. Some staff were not very friendly. No shower inside the park but no staff was wearing mask.
