Caribou County Park
Overview
Caribou County Park, situated just outside the historic town of Soda Springs, offers a tranquil retreat for travelers looking to enjoy the rugged beauty of Eastern Idaho. This county-managed destination is primarily defined by its access to the Alexander Reservoir, providing a peaceful backdrop for a multi-day stay or a refreshing overnight stop. The park maintains a laid-back, community-focused atmosphere that contrasts with high-traffic commercial resorts, making it a hidden gem for those who appreciate scenic waterfront views and quiet nights.
Location & Surroundings
The park is nestled along the banks of the Bear River, surrounded by rolling hills and wide-open Idaho skies. Located a short drive from the center of Soda Springs, visitors are close enough to town for supplies while feeling immersed in a rural landscape. The elevation provides cool summer evenings and clear views of the Caribou Mountains, making it a scenic base camp for high-altitude exploration and a welcome escape from the summer heat found in lower desert regions.
Amenities & Park Features
The facility is designed with outdoor recreation in mind, featuring a well-maintained boat ramp and docks for easy water access. RV travelers will find designated camping spots that provide a rustic experience, though many visitors appreciate the spacious picnic shelters and open lawn areas for group gatherings. Basic necessities like vault toilets and a children’s playground ensure a comfortable environment for families who enjoy a more traditional camping style while staying close to the water’s edge.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
No visit is complete without witnessing the Soda Springs Captive Geyser, which erupts on the hour just minutes from the park. History enthusiasts can explore nearby ruts from the Oregon Trail or visit the local Pioneer Museum to learn about the region's heritage. The reservoir itself is a primary draw, offering excellent opportunities for trout fishing, kayaking, and waterskiing during the warmer months, while the surrounding trails provide space for quiet morning walks and wildlife viewing.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for boating enthusiasts and anglers who want immediate access to the water without the fuss of a crowded marina. It is also perfect for budget-conscious RVers and road trippers who prefer a quiet, natural spot over luxury amenities. If you value a sense of solitude, local history, and the simple pleasures of a lakeside sunset, this location offers exactly the kind of authentic Idaho experience you are seeking.

Nice place for baseball tournaments. Bathrooms were gross and unmaintained the whole time. Scoreboards didn't work. Playing field was fantastic.

There are some nice, easy horse/walking trails around the park. Small streams run by, there are a couple ponds. It was cool to watch the fish jumping. The trails go in and out of trees. One downside is there are kids on dirt bikes who don't head the no motorized vehicle signs. Another big downside is you have to remove manure from the trail. When your horse poops, you have to get off, push it to the side, and get back on again. Riding with children means you get off and on repeatedly to move the manure. This is a ridiculous rule for something biodegradable!!

Long grass, thistles galore. Set up is odd. Neighbor’s sewer right outside our door. No bathrooms or showers available.

As has been said, okay place for a night. Newly renovated? How? Not even a trash barrel that we could find. Weeds overgrown, dirt sites, hard to justify the price. Would be very muddy if rainy.

In from out of town, looking for a bike path for the family and came across this place. It is more of a BMX track.

Good for a night or two. Sites are combination pull through/back in. First in pull through second must back in. Utilities will be on the wrong side for back in...

Good overnight site. Nicely landscaped, roomy site. Easy in and out. Only oddity was checking in at the hotel in town. Would stay again.

Just found this park, it has Nordic ski trails! Just did a short ski, plenty of snow!

Well, the site itself is alright but the location is noisy with a surprising amount of traffic (and a train track). If this bothers you it will be an issue. Also, these site are back in (not pull through) and the RV hookups (water, electricity etc) are on the opposite of our RV hookups. Wouldn't you know that our hose was 4 inches too short!

Larger than the eye can see, Kelly Park has some fun and hidden things to take advantage of including some trails. The toys are off the main street. It has lots of parking. Was large enough to support a race of 120+ kids and their families. It turns out to be a surprising place to visit. Unfortunately some railroad tracks run through but was well worth the visit.
