Central Oregon KOA

Overview

Central Oregon KOA offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of the state’s high desert. Located in Culver, this park serves as an ideal basecamp for travelers looking to explore the rugged beauty of the region. Visitors are often greeted with stunning views of Mt. Jefferson and the surrounding Cascade Range, providing a sense of place that is uniquely Oregonian. The atmosphere is friendly and structured, offering a reliable standard of comfort for those on long road trips across the Pacific Northwest.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just a short drive from Madras, the park is nestled within a vast agricultural and volcanic landscape. This specific location provides easy access to the Crooked River Gorge, where the dramatic cliffs tell the geological story of the area. Unlike the lush forests of the coast, this setting offers clear skies and the dry, crisp air characteristic of the high desert. It is a quiet environment that feels removed from the bustle of the main highway while remaining easily accessible for travelers.

Amenities & Park Features

This KOA is equipped with modern facilities designed for both convenience and relaxation. Guests can enjoy a seasonal outdoor swimming pool during the warm summer months or gather at the clubhouse for community events. For those traveling with pets, the KampK9 dog park provides a fenced area for safe exercise. The park features a variety of site options, including full hookup RV sites with plenty of room for slide-outs, ensuring that even the largest rigs can navigate the grounds with ease.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor adventure is never far away, with Cove Palisades State Park and Lake Billy Chinook located just minutes from the campground. These areas are perfect for boating, fishing, and hiking along the deep canyon rims. Additionally, the world-renowned Smith Rock State Park is a short drive south, offering some of the best rock climbing and scenic photography opportunities in the country. The park’s central location makes it a primary hub for exploring the high desert’s diverse natural wonders.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is perfect for active families who want a mix of on-site entertainment and rugged off-site adventure. It also appeals to big-rig owners looking for level sites and reliable utility hookups in a scenic setting. Whether you are planning a multi-day fishing trip at the nearby reservoir or simply need a comfortable, well-maintained place to rest while touring Central Oregon, this park provides the amenities and location to support a variety of travel styles.

Although I had good customer service and enjoyed my stay, the management needs to enforce trash removal with the long-term residents! Bags and bags of trash and piles and piles of personal belongings outside their campers makes the place look like a low income trailer park. Bc of this, I don't recommend staying here.

We stop here every year on our annual road trip and have had an excellent experience every time. They have a great little store and you can order pizza for dinner if you don’t feel like cooking. Clean, friendly staff, easy to get to.

We slept in 2 tents. Myself, 5 grandkids, and 2 puppies. The tent sites were large but the ground was rock hard. The pool, movies, playground, showers, toilets were clean. My grandkids loved it. I would go back.

Stayed Jul 10, great campground, beautiful location, fully stocked KOA store, Kim was very receptive and went above and beyond to help me change my reservation. Stayed in a deluxe cabin, reasonably priced, could use a spring cleaning, bugs under the counters, a lot of torn screens. Overall, a 4.5. Highly recommend.

This was a very nice KOA. All the spaces are dirt, gravel and grass, no fancy concrete pads, but the park is very clean and they had everything you need. This park is great if you have kids. There is a pool, playground equipment, gem mining and bikes. Also there is a pizza shack and the store stays open until 10 pm.

Depending on which side of the camp you’re in, you get your power shut off many times a night. So far the most it’s gone off in one night, is 5! they’re unaware of when it happens because they only have paying customers in those spots. So when it happens, you better hope you, or someone in the other spots, knows how to turn the power back on. They’re messaging is pretty unprofessional when you have an issue with them. Like power getting shut off or water getting shut off, they won’t inform you. And then say “I’m not sure how we’re supposed to inform you. “ any other rental business will let you know if there’s some kind of outage, even if it’s sudden. Usually there’s some apology, but not here. The dog area is really small, and there’s room for a bigger one The facilities are clean which is good. And they owner has always been nice. So has one of the male employees, he’s chill and helpful.

It’s a KOA, if you’ve never been to one, you might have difficulties enjoying it. The employees were excellent. The showers were hot, the store was stocked. It was fairly quiet for a KOA. And I didn’t have to wear a stupid useless mask. That was the best thing. Plus the coyotes howl at 2 am made my night. Definitely be back if I’m in the area again. Satisfied customer.

We stayed for a few days and had a great time. The pizza, ice cream(huge scoops and lots of toppings) and breakfast were really good. Pool, playground areas were well maintained. Basket ball hoop could use some love but it didn't take away from our experience. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good launching pad to explore the area. Thanks for the great time.
