Charlarose Lake & Campground

Overview

Charlarose Lake & Campground provides a peaceful retreat tucked away in the heart of west-central Indiana. As a family-owned destination, it emphasizes a slower pace of life where the focus remains on nature and simple outdoor pleasures. The park is centered around a scenic private lake, offering visitors a quiet escape from the noise of the highway. Whether you are stopping for a night or staying for a week, the atmosphere is consistently welcoming and relaxed for all travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside Hillsboro, IN, the campground is surrounded by the rolling farmland and lush woodlands typical of Fountain County. The area is characterized by its quiet country roads and a genuine rural feel that makes it easy to disconnect. Despite its secluded environment, the park is easily accessible for travelers navigating through the crossroads of the Midwest, providing a serene natural backdrop for any camping trip throughout the season.

Amenities & Park Features

The primary draw of this campground is the private spring-fed lake, where guests can enjoy fishing without the requirement of a state license. Families often gather at the sandy swimming beach during the summer months to cool off. The park offers various site types, including those with water and electric hookups for RVs. Additional features include:

  • A playground for children
  • Clean picnic areas
  • Large fire rings for evening gatherings
These amenities ensure a comfortable and family-friendly environment for those seeking a traditional camping experience.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the lake provides plenty of on-site entertainment, the surrounding region offers several excursions. Nature enthusiasts are within driving distance of Shades State Park and Turkey Run State Park, both of which are famous for their rugged sandstone canyons and hiking trails. For a more laid-back afternoon, visitors can explore the small-town charm of nearby Veedersburg and Covington, where local diners and antique shops offer a taste of authentic Indiana culture and hospitality.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for families and retirees who prefer a rustic, traditional camping experience over a crowded, high-traffic resort atmosphere. It is particularly well-suited for avid anglers looking for convenient access to well-stocked waters in a quiet setting. If your travel style involves quiet evenings by the fire and a community-focused environment, this Hillsboro gem provides the perfect setting for your next Indiana RV adventure.

Quiet clean campground. I showed up a day early, it was no problem. Also booked my stay without a deposit, card number to hold site no nothing. Just a 30 sec conversation. That's my America.

Needed a last minute overnight stay. Found Charlarose on our search. Very accommodating. Beautiful, clean campground. Greeted us after hours and got us settled in. Even helped us get backed in. Would highly recommend this campground. Thank you

This campground is a diamond in the rough. Exceeded our expectations. Owners were very friendly. Felt welcomed. They go all out on Labor day weekend. Two live bands and a very big professional fireworks show. Also it is our in country so it was peaceful. Will be back again.

Great family campground that is owned and run by a very kind couple. We were only passing through the area and spent just the one night, but we talked about coming back for a weekend sometime, perhaps this fall. Beautiful location and the lake and surrounding area is well maintained and very clean.
