This campground is renowned for its lush, wooded landscape and its intimate connection to the flowing waters of the Chena River. Visitors typically find themselves immersed in a classic Alaskan environment where the scent of spruce and the sound of the river dominate the atmosphere. It provides a rustic camping experience that emphasizes natural beauty over modern frills, making it a staple for those exploring the Interior.

You will find this campground situated at Mile 27 of Chena Hot Springs Road, a scenic corridor that stretches east from Fairbanks. The surrounding geography is defined by the rolling hills of the Tanana Valley and the winding path of the river. The campground is tucked away from the main road, shielded by a thick canopy of birch and spruce trees, which provides excellent privacy between sites. The proximity to the water makes it a prime spot for observing local wildlife or simply enjoying the cool breeze off the riverbank.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities nearby, starting with fishing for Arctic grayling directly from the riverbanks. Just a few miles further down the road, hikers can challenge themselves on the Angel Rocks Trail, which offers stunning granite outcroppings and panoramic views of the valley. Of course, many travelers use the park as a base camp before heading to the famous Chena Hot Springs Resort for a soak. The river itself is also a popular destination for paddling and floating during the summer months.
Who This Park Is Best For
This campground is ideal for independent RVers who prefer the sounds of nature over the hum of a crowded commercial park. If your travel style involves boondocking and you enjoy a secluded forest setting, Rosehip will meet your needs perfectly. Those seeking a peaceful, low-cost home base while exploring the greater Fairbanks area will find this park to be a hidden gem.

I've been to the chain of river rec area several times but usually drive farther out the road. My first time staying at the Rosehip Campground and I'm very impressed. The sites are big and spread out. There are a few double sites even in case you're going to camp with a friend. Who knew that the closest campground in the rec area to town actually gives you the most private and secluded campsites.

We camp here a lot. Usually not too packed. Beautiful scenery, great trails. We saw kayaking and tried some fishing.

Camp spots are nice, the facility is pretty well maintained. Nice walking path to the Chena river. Vault toilets well maintained. Very buggy.

Very clean, and private campground sites. Loved our time there. No running water so pack some with you!

Bathrooms were clean and the mosquitoes were tolerable versus other spots. The trails however were overgrown but the river made up for it.

I camped alot of places this summer, Rosehip was by far the cleanest. There is some road noise but it was infrequent and really nothing more than white noise. It was Saturday on a July weekend, more camp spots empty than full. Each spot seemed rather well placed with a buffer of wilderness with some paths between camp sites. Some sites are double for more than one vehicle, but I'd say you could easily fit two vehicles at one site. Plenty of flat forest ground for tents. A deep fire pit, my site could easily have held three maybe four bundles. There was a kiosk credit card at the pull over before entering the park and a cash envelope station in the park. No site host when I camped. Hope you like it as I did, toodles.
