Chequamegon-Nicolet/Laura Lake

Overview

Tucked within the sprawling Nicolet National Forest, Laura Lake offers a serene escape for RVers who value natural beauty over commercial luxury. This campground is widely celebrated for its crystal-clear water and the quiet atmosphere of the Wisconsin Northwoods. With two lakes—Laura and Gordon—at your doorstep, the site provides a quintessential forest experience where the rustle of leaves and the call of loons define the environment.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near Armstrong Creek, WI, the park is immersed in a dense landscape of hardwoods and hemlocks. The proximity to Gordon Lake provides a unique dual-lake environment, doubling the opportunities for exploration. The surrounding wilderness is home to diverse wildlife, including bald eagles and white-tailed deer, offering a peaceful retreat far from the noise of major highways or urban development in a true forest setting.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a rustic camping experience, so RVers should arrive prepared for dry camping. While there are no electric or sewer hookups, the park features well-maintained vault toilets and hand-pumped drinking water. Most sites offer paved or gravel pads that can accommodate various rig sizes, along with a fire ring and a heavy-duty picnic table. A paved boat ramp and a dedicated swimming area provide easy access to the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the Laura Lake Trail, a scenic 6.5-mile path that circles both lakes and is perfect for hiking or mountain biking. The sandy swimming beach is a highlight during summer months, while the boat launch provides access for kayaking and electric-motor boating. Anglers often target the panfish and trout found in these pristine waters, making it a popular spot for quiet morning paddles and shoreline fishing.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for self-contained RVers who enjoy unplugging from technology to reconnect with the natural world. It is a fantastic choice for families who appreciate traditional outdoor activities like swimming and hiking, as well as solo travelers seeking solitude in the woods. If you prefer a quiet, primitive setting over a busy resort atmosphere, this forest gem in Armstrong Creek is an excellent fit for your travel style.

The rustic campground is beautiful. Other campers with generators marred the experience. Enjoyed hearing loons and the hike around the lake

Awesome campground. Great hiking trails, clean outhouses, fresh water pump. Saw lots of wildlife. Sites are private enough, woodsy enough.

Always love it here. Shady and picturesque with most sites having good waterfront access. Always busy and was not able to get a spot.

A "buggy" area, but it is so gorgeous here. Beware of the VERY rough slow paced road on the 5 mile drive in.

This is a very tame Campground it's secluded yet kind of bare the campsites are right next to each other so there's not much privacy if it's packed. Be sure to bring a flashlight bug spray and wood. Most of the campsites can fit very very large campers... also have tents only spots. I think it's honestly a little pricey but it's well-maintained the outhouses are very clean for being out houses, also there is water and power so you can't go wrong I guess... There's an awesome hiking trail that hikes all the way around the lake it is quite the hike so be prepared water, bug spray.. tons of bug spray the halfway point there is a sign that brings you on a wooden bridge to the bog that you turn to the left and to the right there is a bench that you can sit by on the lake... The fishing is mostly Bass Dogs are welcome but not in the swim area They have a beautiful boat launch for the dogs to swim at...keep em chained Also the beach is buoyed off and not very deep so it's good for children and a little easier to rest as a parent. Be sure to bring bikes if you have children they love riding around the campgrounds. The sky at night is beyond beautiful and you must sleep there to actually experience this place Happy and safe travels to all!!!! The locals are very friendly I recommend the shell nearest to it for supplies if needed.

Nice camping spot to get away from civilization. The closest town is Armstrong Creek where there is an opportunity for fuel, food, and some incidentals. There are no electrical sites nor are there showers so make sure you bring your battery packs, solar chargers, and portable showers. The nights are quiet and some might say pitch black as thousands of stars are overhead. The campsite has three bodies of water; Gordon, Laura, and Bog lake. Gordon has a sand beach and boat landing. Laura has a boat landing, and Bog has a wooden bridge which allows one to launch a small boat in the bog. Other activities include a hike around Laura lake and 6 miles of biking. The biking trail is in essence a grass and leaf covered logging road. There are not many hills and the only challenge is the very soft terrain making it slow going and grueling. Not recommended for families as the soft terrain will suck the energy from kids quick. Not recommended for bikers looking for a single track experience. Best suited for a horse and hiking trail.
