Cheyenne Mountain

Overview

Cheyenne Mountain State Park offers a premier outdoor experience on the southwestern edge of Colorado Springs. Known for its diverse ecosystem and stunning prairie-to-peak transitions, the park provides a well-maintained basecamp for exploring the Front Range. With over 2,700 acres of protected land, it successfully balances modern camping conveniences with immediate access to rugged natural beauty and quiet ponderosa pine forests.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just south of the city limits, the park offers a unique vantage point where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. Travelers enjoy expansive views of the city lights to the east and the towering face of Cheyenne Mountain to the west. The elevation provides cooler evenings even during the peak of summer, making it a refreshing retreat for those looking to stay close to the urban amenities of Colorado Springs.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV facilities are top-tier for a state park, featuring 51 full hookup sites that include water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical service. Each site is paved and designed with enough space to accommodate larger rigs comfortably. Guests have access to a central camper services building, which houses modern restrooms, coin-operated showers, and laundry facilities. Additional features include a dedicated archery range and a visitor center that highlights local wildlife and history.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can access over 28 miles of multi-use trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking directly from the campground loops. Beyond the park gates, the location serves as a perfect hub for regional sightseeing. Visitors are within a 20-minute drive of Garden of the Gods, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the historic Broadmoor district. For a longer excursion, the Pikes Peak Highway and Manitou Springs are easily accessible for a full day of Colorado adventure.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for travelers who want a manicured camping experience without sacrificing the feeling of the wilderness. It is particularly well-suited for families who appreciate educational programs and safe trails, as well as big-rig owners who prefer paved pads and reliable utilities. It is a perfect choice for those who want to visit the Pikes Peak region while avoiding the tighter spaces found in many private urban RV parks.

This state park is one of the best RV friendly places we've stayed at so far. Easy access for any rv up to 40', possibly longer. Extremely clean park, including the restrooms 🚻!! Lots of wildlife here. We have seen Mule Deer, turkey, prairie dogs, and other native animals. We totally enjoyed the stay and wish we were able to stay much longer. However, our journey only included 2 days here. Very close to all major Colorado Springs attractions!! Make sure you plan to make reservations way before going there. It's obviously a very popular campground. We were lucky to get the ada spot two weeks in advance. There was no other non ada available for more than 4 weeks of advance checks we made. Make your reservation soon and go visit this amazing state park!!!

Very clean, private sites. Laundry services available. Walking trails. Good base camp for Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, Garden of the God's, Royal Gorge.

This is one of the most beautiful parks, views are fantastic, weather wonderful. You can hike trails even with your dog, you can go bicycling. Plus it’s close enough to the city to shop or go to restaurants. And it’s extremely clean!!

Cheyenne Mountain State Park is a beautiful and peaceful spot for hiking, biking, and relaxing in nature. 🌿 The trails are well-kept, the restrooms are spotless, and the picnic areas are perfect. 🧺 The visitor center is lovely, and the rangers are super friendly and helpful. A must-visit in Colorado Springs! 🌄💚

Beautiful park with verdant green slopes with Cheyenne Mountain in the background jutting up. Great if you like hiking and nature walks. You get a mix of prairie, scrub oak and montane forest with in a reasonable hike. The park impressed me with little things, the bathrooms at the trailhead, the fact that all the trails are labeled with small sign along the trail and All the maps at the intersection face North! Also the information sign were in good condition and were relevant. Staff at the visitor center were helpful and pointed me to good trails. Only down side was the weather and the fact some trails were muddy and that stuck to your boots. I treated as a new experience and didn’t let the rain ruin my enjoyment.

This is a great Campground. Little info you do not have to check in anywhere when you get here just go to your site and setup. It can get pretty windy here. I talked to a ranger and he said it was not out of the ordinary to be windy but normally it settles down in a couple of hours. Shower stalls are great. Water temp not so much. Men's side had one shower that was perfect temp the other ones were extremely hot. My wife said that the women's side were all cold. There are plenty of trails to hike here as well. You do have to buy a daily entrance ticket every day that you are here as well.

This is one of the best state parks we’ve ever been to, very clean and well maintained. The sites are so big and roomy, and best of all you’re not close to the next site. We will definitely stay here again if we’re ever in the area. Love this park ❤️

Wonderful park full of many many trails! Prairie dogs greet you at the entrance and the visitor's center is really nice. If you are here to hike or camp, you'll have a great experience. They are open year round and have many amenities for your stay.

Fantastic campground, better than any private campground we’ve been to since owning our camper. The restrooms were cleaned daily and showers were nice and hot. The campsite is close enough to town to get groceries or visit Walmart quickly. The trails were great for walking or mountain biking. I have no complaints and we will definitely be back.
