Chickasabogue Park (Mobile County Park)

Overview

Chickasabogue Park is a sprawling 1,100-acre wilderness area managed by Mobile County, offering a peaceful escape for travelers seeking to connect with the natural beauty of the Gulf Coast region. Unlike high-traffic commercial resorts, this park emphasizes outdoor recreation and conservation, providing a quiet backdrop for both long-term stays and weekend getaways. It serves as a vital green space where the focus remains on the preservation of Alabama’s native flora and fauna.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked away in Eight Mile, Alabama, the park sits just north of the busy Port of Mobile. The environment is defined by its lush pine forests and the winding Chickasabogue Creek, which provides a serene waterfront atmosphere throughout the property. While the park feels secluded and miles away from the city, it remains conveniently close to major highways, making it an accessible stop for those traveling through the southern tip of the state.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features spacious RV sites equipped with full hookups, including water, electricity, and sewer services to ensure a comfortable stay. Guests can enjoy access to an extensive network of hiking and biking trails that weave through the diverse wetlands and upland forests. For water enthusiasts, there is a boat launch and fishing pier available. Additional amenities include a disc golf course, several picnic pavilions for group gatherings, and clean restroom and shower facilities for campers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Nature lovers will find plenty of activities without leaving the grounds, but those wishing to explore the local area can easily reach the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park. The historic district of Mobile is only a short drive away, offering a variety of museums, local seafood restaurants, and a glimpse into the city's unique heritage. Additionally, the park’s location makes it a great home base for visiting the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, one of the most biodiverse regions in the country.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers who prefer a rustic, quiet environment over a high-energy resort setting. It is a perfect fit for families who enjoy active outdoor activities like cycling, kayaking, or exploring wooded trails. RVers looking for a budget-friendly, spacious site while exploring the greater Mobile area will find that Chickasabogue Park offers an excellent balance of convenience and natural beauty.

Overnight stay while traveling through the area. Very pleased with the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Beautiful campsite with plenty of room to back our 34 ft 5th wheel into. Would definitely stay here again.

Wow! What a great place for camping. Wish we could have stayed longer. All the staff we encountered were super friendly. Big rig friendly. Big beautiful easy entry sites. All have fire ring with grill grate. Also has separate free standing grill and an oversized picnic table. Each site has a lamp post that you can turn on or off. Lights on all the electric posts as well. Nicely paved. Clean facilities. Nice huge brand new playground for the kiddos. Tons of covered picnic areas. They also have a beach area on a river that looked nice for summer. Definitely would recommend this place. Hiking trails too

Boo-No more kayak rentals! You can still bring your own, but I do wish they would publish that info on website or somewhere obvious. Way-finding signs are desperately needed in the park and on the way there. The water access area still needs updates and maybe some big warnings about alligators would be responsible. (I saw an 8ft-er up the creek.) Every employee I encountered was solidly inside their phone.

This park is dope af! Tons of trails to hike, some super cool rustic campsites by the creek, Frisbee golf course with a beautiful sweet skunky aroma coming from it, kayak launch, beach, and probably a bunch of stuff I don't even know about. Great place to walk your dog and/or hunt for mushies. My wife and I found an absolute goldmine of Chanterelles in a secret location that is super hard to find so don't even bother going to look for it. We also found a non-venoumous snake, but don't worry he was just hanging out people watching.

We are pleased to see all of the renovations and equipment updates completed at the park. It has been one of our favorite local spots for swimming and trails and we were excited for the re-opening. There a couple of reasons for only being able to give 4 stars. The restrooms that used to stay well-maintained and clean were less than satisfactory during our last two most recent visits. There was no toilet paper or soap in either the men's or women's restroom. While I understand that a busy day can cause stocked supplies to go quickly, when I asked one of the many workers on golf carts about it, they laughed and said, "Yeah there isn't any anywhere." The restrooms were very unclean, and no attention seemed to be going toward them despite golf carts with 2-3 workers riding around, stopping to talk to people. It was just disappointing to see that no one was taking it as a priority even though this was obviously a health concern. The employees were nice enough, and I do feel like they were watching for safety concerns - swimmers, boats coming through, cars speeding, etc. I would just rather the park charge a small fee again so that needed supplies can stay stocked.

The renovations are wonderful. Great new playground. Trails. Beach access to the river. Sports areas. Tennis, basketball, volleyball, soccer.

There were so many parts that we didn't have enough time in the day to explore it all. They have security/workers that are present. Clean facilities and groundskeeping is kept up. Being from out of town it was quite a ride through a rough part of town but you wouldn't know it by looking at this place surrounded by woods and fences. We will be going back to explore more

So their website has this to say: Chickasabogue Park is temporarily closed to the public effective Jan 31, 2022, for infrastructure and amenity improvements. It will remain closed until construction and renovation are complete. It’s estimated the park will be closed for at least a year. Yet my review date is 01.14.24 and NOTHING done to the beach area yet.

This is the second time we’ve stayed there. It is a lovely park. And some amazing trails. Full hook ups an amazing price, $18 without any discounts nine dollars with passport America. They have some challenging by hiking trails or you can stick to the paved roads which is fine. They have a gorgeous swimming area , sports area and a family trail with all kinds of exercise equipment. Highly highly recommend. I understand they are doing a major renovation at the end of January upgrading all their utilities water sewer and RV pads. We will be back.
