Overview
Cold River Campground offers a peaceful escape within the quiet landscape of Eddington, Maine. This family-operated park provides a genuine New England camping experience where the sound of wind through the trees replaces the noise of city life. It serves as a comfortable, wooded retreat for those who appreciate a slower pace while remaining close to the region's most popular destinations. The park is known for its tall pines and welcoming atmosphere, making it a reliable choice for those exploring the Pine Tree State.
Location & Surroundings
Situated along the scenic Route 9 corridor, the park sits just east of the Bangor-Brewer area. This location offers a strategic balance between secluded wilderness and easy access to the shopping, dining, and healthcare hubs of Central Maine. The surrounding landscape is defined by rolling hills and the nearby flow of the Penobscot River, providing a classic Maine backdrop that feels miles away from the hustle and bustle while staying conveniently connected to major transit routes.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is designed to accommodate various setups, featuring spacious pull-thru sites and essential full hookups that include 30 and 50-amp electricity. Guests have access to well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms, hot showers, and a laundry room to make extended stays more comfortable. The sites are noted for being remarkably private, often nestled under a thick canopy of mature trees that provide natural shade and a sense of individual space that is often missing in larger RV resorts.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Travelers can easily explore the cultural offerings of nearby Bangor, such as the Bangor Waterfront or the historic downtown district. For those seeking coastal adventures, the breathtaking vistas and hiking trails of Acadia National Park are roughly an hour's drive away, making the campground an affordable base for day trips to Bar Harbor. Closer to the park, visitors can enjoy local fishing, boating on nearby ponds, or attending seasonal events at the Cross Insurance Center.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is a perfect fit for peace-seeking travelers who want a quiet, natural home base without the high-energy crowds of a massive resort. It is particularly ideal for retirees, couples, or long-term travelers looking for a convenient stopover while journeying toward the Maine coast or the Canadian border. If you value a friendly, low-key atmosphere and the beauty of a forest setting over organized activities and water parks, this campground will suit your travel style perfectly.

Best wifi of an park we have been in. Streaming TV, no problem. Highly recommend. We are in a 42' motorcoach. Easy pull through. Very little road noise. 10 minutes from downtown Bangor (cool city)

Great space for RV and having dogs. Access to dog park was essential for our hunting dogs who need exercise. Bathroom well cleaned. Overall a positive experience only 18min from University of Maine for parents weekend.

Cold River Campground is a quiet and cozy place! The staff are exceptional and were so kind to us during our stay. We rented the 2-bedroom cabin during our stay. It was a nice little place with 2 separate rooms, curtains for doors. The beds are doubles with very soft mattresses. I would say for us personally, that is our only complaint as we prefer a firm mattress (only reason we gave 4 stars for the room). It had a futon seating area and a kitchen table with 4 chairs. Our cabin included a microwave and coffee maker. You do need to bring all of your own linen, supplies, utensils, etc. as those are not provided. This is stated when you book your cabin. The bathhouse was very nice as well. It was only a short walk from our cabin and was very clean and well kept. The toilet stalls and shower stalls were all very clean. Overall, we had a great time during our stay and if we ever return to the area, we will definitely consider staying there again!

We spent 4 nights here the end of August. What a delightful campground! The bath house was clean and well kept. Showers were hot, clean and free! The laundry room/library was a welcome respite from the rigors of camping. Machines were clean and worked well. The sofas were comfortable to wait for your laundry. Included a nice bathroom on site as well. The library was well stocked with some good books. The store carries the best ice cream! It was a quiet and restful stay. We would definitely come back if we're in the area!

Very nice campground very clean and the pool is so nice. They make you feel like family there. We have 2 grandchildren one 6 and one 2 and it just amazed me how everyone watched out for those kids. Those kids met new friends it’s just a very family oriented Campground. It’s a definite we’ll do it again for sure. Try it out you won’t be disappointed

Cold River Campground was very comfortable. The facilities were sparkling clean and the camp hosts friendly and welcoming. The library had a larger collection of books than I’ve seen at any park. Would definitely stay here again!

We had a glamping dome for two nights while we were in town for a concert. It is close enough to downtown Bangor, super duper clean bathrooms, friendly staff… the dome itself was excellent. So cute and it seems they put a lot of care into the details. The pool looked clean and inviting with very cute and comfy chairs, though we did not use it as it was locked and we did not ask for a key (our fault). We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in the area. Such a gem!

What a wonderful night! We were greated kindly by those that spend the summers here. The site was clean, somewhat private and the entire property was quiet and gave a great atmosphere. The bathrooms/showers were clean and felt like going into a home. Would highly recommend.

The owners/staff at this campground were wonderful and very accommodating. The playground had two swings and a sandbox with some toys in it for kids to play with, but not much else. The pool was not in working order while we stayed, however, the staff brought an inflatable pool for my kids to play in at our lot. The bathhouse was quite neat and clean. Overall, we had a good experience and I would return.

Kathy and Matt were amazing owners and hosts. We enjoyed our stay. We took advantage of their shuttle service to Bangor Amphitheatre to see a concert. The campground is well maintained. Beautiful pool, game room and store. There was an event while we were there; Christmas in July. Fun for all. The children had a lot of fun..Santa and the Grinch vidited Very friendly fellow campers. We are planning a return trip later this summer.
