Colville/Sullivan Lake

Overview

Located within the Colville National Forest near Metaline Falls, the camping areas around Sullivan Lake offer a quintessential Pacific Northwest escape. This destination is defined by the largest natural lake in the forest, surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Selkirk Mountains. Whether you stay at the East Sullivan, West Sullivan, or Noisy Creek sites, the experience centers on deep immersion in nature. It is a place where the sounds of the forest replace highway noise, providing a serene backdrop for those looking to disconnect and enjoy the pristine beauty of Northeastern Washington.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated at the northern end of the Selkirk Loop, a scenic drive known for its dramatic landscapes and diverse wildlife. Sullivan Lake itself sits at an elevation of roughly 2,600 feet, nestled between steep, timbered ridges. The surroundings are characterized by dense stands of cedar and fir, which provide ample shade and a sense of privacy. Travelers should be prepared for winding mountain roads that lead to the water's edge, offering glimpses of elk or moose along the way. The proximity to the Canadian border adds a layer of remote charm to this high-country setting.

Amenities & Park Features

These campgrounds lean toward a rustic experience, focusing on preserving the natural environment. While you will not find luxury resort amenities, the park provides essential facilities including vault toilets and potable water at several locations. Many sites are designed to accommodate RVs and trailers, though it is important to check specific length limits as most spots are geared toward medium-sized rigs. Key features include paved boat launches for water access and designated swimming areas with sandy beaches. There are no electrical hookups, making it an ideal destination for those equipped for dry camping or boondocking.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. The Sullivan Lakeshore Trail offers a scenic hike along the eastern bank, connecting the north and south ends of the lake. Water enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing for kokanee salmon or trout. Just a short drive away, the Gardner Caves at Crawford State Park provide a fascinating underground exploration opportunity. For those interested in local history, the nearby town of Metaline Falls offers historic architecture and a glimpse into the region's mining and logging past.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is best suited for adventurous RVers who prioritize scenery and outdoor activities over modern conveniences. It is an excellent choice for families looking to spend their days on the water and their evenings around a campfire. If you enjoy wildlife viewing and hiking, the trail systems here will not disappoint. It is less ideal for those seeking big-rig luxury or constant connectivity, as cell service can be spots. Instead, it serves as a premier retreat for travelers who want to experience the raw, quiet beauty of Washington’s mountain wilderness.

Stopped by for a day pass on opening weekend, Memorial Day, and fell absolutely in love with the place! We had the pleasure of meeting the new campground host, Diana, and her assistant/mascot Marvin(see picture for his wonderful face) and could not be happier. They were some of the most welcoming camp hosts we've had the pleasure of meeting and can't wait to see them again. Absolutely welcoming, so sweet, and genuinely happy to be there. I wish them nothing but the best and hope they can continue to host for years to come. The campground itself was absolutely stunning, breathtaking and clean as could be. We will be making this place a regular stop due to its peaceful nature, wonderful vibes and views. There were deer, fish, and birds a plenty. This is honestly the dream campground. Great spots, picnic tables and a lovely little beach to enjoy on warm days. Don't hesitate and come enjoy this place for yourself, you won't regret it, I guarantee that!

This is a beautiful, clean and clear lake with great camping spaces. A smaller campground, with large sites, separated by plenty of trees and undergrowth. The beach is fabulous. No hookups, but water is nearby. Makes for a more authentic camping experience plus the beach is wonderful. Our site was a little difficult to maneuver into as it was laid out a little wonky for backing a trailer in, but we made it! Sites can hold multiple tents as well.

Was still closed but drove around the lake. So beautiful. Don’t know why the campground was closed. Weather was perfect for camping

We snagged a first come site on a Monday in July, it was the only one available, and I'm not surprised. This campground is clean and incredibly close to the water, which is crystal clear and cool but not cold. Ideal for swimming. Bears are a concern here so make use of the bear proof food storage bins and definitely don't keep any food in your tents. There is also an active air strip right next door which can be loud but not very frequent (we had one airplane and a helicopter during two days). Highly recommend this area if you have a family, the kids will love it!

Stopped by from Metaline Falls Bigfoot Festival for a quick dip/ shower. Seems to be a nice lake for fishing and definitely swimming. There was also a landing and take off strip for Cessna aircraft's. Got to see 'em having some fun doing his rounds around the lake. Please adventure this location and let people know about the beauty it holds. I got good vibes while out there. Happy adventures!
