Contentnea Creekside RV & Trail Park

Overview

Contentnea Creekside RV & Trail Park offers a serene getaway along the banks of one of North Carolina's most scenic waterways. Owned and operated by the Town of Grifton, this park emphasizes natural beauty and outdoor recreation. It serves as a gateway to the region’s diverse ecosystems, providing a quiet retreat for those looking to swap city noise for the sounds of flowing water and rustling leaves. The park is integrated with the local trail system, making it an ideal base for land and water exploration near Contentnea Creek.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the town of Grifton, NC, the park sits directly adjacent to Contentnea Creek, a major tributary of the Neuse River. The surrounding landscape is characterized by lush cypress swamps and hardwood forests, which define the coastal plain region. Travelers will find themselves conveniently located between the larger hubs of Greenville and Kinston, allowing for a balance of secluded wilderness and easy access to urban conveniences. The setting is deeply rooted in the local ecology, offering a true Eastern North Carolina experience.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed with modern RV needs in mind, featuring paved back-in sites equipped with full hookups, including water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electricity. Each site is situated to provide views of the surrounding greenery or the creek itself. Guests have access to a kayak and canoe launch, facilitating easy entry into the water for a day of paddling. The facility also includes a clean bathhouse and proximity to the local nature center, ensuring a comfortable yet immersive stay in the outdoors.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Nature enthusiasts will find plenty to do, as the park is a designated stop on the North Carolina Birding Trail. Hikers can explore several miles of wooded trails that wind through the property. For those interested in local history and science, the Grifton Nature & Science Center is just steps away, offering educational exhibits about the area's fossil-rich soil and wildlife. Anglers often frequent the creek for its abundance of fish, while the nearby town of Kinston offers dining and craft breweries for an afternoon outing.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and birdwatchers who prioritize a quiet, scenic environment over high-traffic resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for paddlers looking for direct water access and families who enjoy educational outdoor activities. Because of its well-maintained paved pads, it is also a great fit for travelers seeking a reliable and clean stopover while exploring the inner banks of North Carolina. Excellent Gem of a Campground. Small, peaceful, clean, with a washer & dryer on site. Located along the Contentnea Brook, great for boating & fishing. Walking trails and large open fields give this campground the best rating. Close to Ayden, Kinston & Greenville, NC. I love it here!

A great place for short and long term RVs traveler. Complete with rest room facility (permit required) that includes toilets and showers, a walk/run trail, water hookup, and picnic tables. Located next to the river making it great for fishing. A quarter mile from Grifton's food, and shopping complex.

Found this campground while looking for a place to stay for a couple of weeks near Kinston, North Carolina. Could not be happier. In a shaded creekside campsite, quiet evenings, and really nice people to work with. First place I will check when I return to this area.

What a great campground! Really enjoyed our stay. Bathrooms are immaculate and Tommy was the nicest, easy going host a person could ask for! Will definitely return!

Great gem of a RV park on the outskirts of Greenville, N.C.. You can fish for shad or big catfish in Contentnea creek which runs along the park. Walking trails. Big Rig friendly. Paved road. Friendly people. Clean bathhouse. Very quiet. Unbelievable park!

I’m thrilled with the helpfulness of Mr Tommy Suggs since I’ve been here. Each spot has a travelled driveway, county water and septic hookup, a picnic table, charcoal grill, 1.5 ft y’all stoned fire pit and bonfire benches. The showers are in a temperature controlled building and have codes to access to ensure privacy. A washer and dryer facility is in the works but not yet available. The fishing, with the proper license, looks awesome although I’ve yet to fish the river myself yet. The walking trails are maintained, the swings and fire pits placed around the park allow for deep conversation and thinking/meditation. The calm and the quiet make this park bliss! Full time permanent living is permitted but hard to find because of how nice it is here. Quiet hours are 11p to 7am so you know you’ll get a good nights rest. I recommend to anyone thinking of residing here, temporary or long-term.

Great place to get away for a weekend or for a week. It was so quiet and peaceful. It is about 20-30 minutes from Greenville, where there is shopping, great food, and fun for all.
