Coon Fork Park (Eau Claire County Park)
Overview
Coon Fork Park offers a serene escape within the heavily wooded landscape of eastern Eau Claire County. Known for its quiet atmosphere and scenic waterfront views, this county-managed facility surrounds the 84-acre Coon Fork Lake. It provides a classic Wisconsin camping experience where the focus remains on connecting with nature. Whether you are looking for a weekend retreat or a peaceful midweek stay, the park offers a blend of rustic charm and essential comforts for modern RVers seeking to disconnect from the daily grind.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just a few miles outside of Augusta, Wisconsin, the park is easily accessible via Highway 27. The landscape is characterized by dense hardwood and pine forests that provide ample shade and privacy for most campsites. The park encircles a tranquil reservoir, creating a private oasis away from the noise of major interstates. Visitors often remark on the abundant wildlife and the stillness of the water, making it a premier destination for those seeking a slower pace of life in the heart of the Midwest.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 81 sites, many of which are specifically designed to accommodate RVs with electric hookups. While the park maintains a rustic feel, it provides critical conveniences including pressurized water stations and clean vault toilets. Families appreciate the two sandy swimming beaches and the well-maintained boat launch for non-motorized or low-speed watercraft. For those traveling with children, the park offers several playground areas and spacious picnic shelters perfect for afternoon gatherings and group meals.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with extensive hiking and biking trails winding through the forest. Anglers can spend hours on the lake fishing for panfish, bass, and northern pike. Just a short drive away, history buffs can visit the Dells Mill Museum, a historic 19th-century grist mill that is one of the most photographed spots in the state. The nearby city of Eau Claire offers additional dining, shopping, and cultural events for those wanting to venture out from the woods for a day of exploration.
Who This Park Is Best For
Coon Fork Park is ideal for nature-focused families and travelers who prefer a traditional county park vibe over a commercial resort. It is a fantastic choice for those who enjoy water-based activities like kayaking or paddleboarding in a no-wake environment. Because of the dense tree cover and peaceful setting, it is best suited for RVers who value privacy and a quiet night under the stars rather than high-speed internet or luxury amenities typically found at urban parks.

One of the best small lake campgrounds I've stayed at. Friendly staff, nice amenities and activities, and a small lake for kayak and swimming.

This is a beautiful little campground. I can only judge it as a random person passing through who needed to pitch tent for a night but it was very scenic and seemed really family friendly. The staff was nice and the site was perfect with electric hookups present and a bathroom and showers very close by.

Great family campground with nice beaches and new playgrounds. The family liked it and we will be returning. You can tell the staff work hard to keep things running. They definitely earn their pay.

Fun little lake and campground. This is a man made lake and campgrounds. It is 5-ish miles east of Augusta, WI. The lake is about 1 mile long and 1/2 mile wide. This was the worst year the park ranger has ever seen for mosquitoes.

We stayed a couple of nights over Memorial weekend and everything was good. This is a clean and well kept campground. Glad to see the new welcome office and that the campground is kept up year after year. We stayed with our camper in a nonelectric site so we could, for the first time, try dry docking and everything went great. The bathhouse and restrooms were clean and very nice. Great walking paths and sunsets. Best place for kayaking and pond fishing.
