Croton Township Park
Overview
Croton Township Park offers a serene escape nestled along the banks where the Muskegon River meets the backwaters of the Croton Dam. This destination is deeply rooted in Michigan's outdoor culture, providing a classic camping experience that emphasizes natural beauty and community. Visitors often come here to reconnect with the landscape, enjoying a peaceful environment characterized by towering hardwood trees and immediate access to one of the region's most famous and productive waterways.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Newaygo County, the park is positioned in a prime location for water enthusiasts and nature photographers. It sits near the confluence of the Muskegon and Little Muskegon Rivers, creating a unique aquatic geography that defines the local lifestyle. The surrounding area is lush and heavily forested, offering a cool, shaded canopy during the Michigan summer. Because it is located just a short drive from the village of Croton, campers have easy access to local supplies while feeling completely immersed in the broader Manistee National Forest ecosystem.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed for functional comfort, catering to both RVers and tent campers who appreciate a tidy, well-managed site. Many sites offer 30-amp electrical service and seasonal water hookups, making it a reliable choice for various trailer sizes. On-site facilities include a clean bathhouse with hot showers and a convenient paved boat launch that provides direct entry to the river for motorized boats or paddlesports. Families appreciate the open green spaces and the well-maintained playground, which serve as central gathering points for the camping community.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Fishing is the primary draw here, as the area is renowned for its world-class salmon and steelhead runs that attract anglers from across the Midwest. Beyond the river, the nearby Dragon Trail at Hardy Dam offers over 40 miles of premier mountain biking and hiking paths for those seeking land-based adventure. Visitors can also spend the day tubing or kayaking down the gentle currents of the Muskegon River or explore the local shops and small-town charm found in the historic downtown districts of nearby Newaygo.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize location and river access over high-end resort amenities. It is a favorite for fishing groups, birdwatchers, and families looking for a traditional Michigan camping trip without the noise of modern commercial developments. If you enjoy a quiet, rustic atmosphere where the sound of the water and the wind in the pines take center stage, this park provides the perfect backdrop for your next riverfront RV journey.

When I got here it was after hours there wasn't a folder for me to sign in and when I went to my sight it had the dock taking up whole sight so I found empty one and will contact them tomorrow hopefully with no problem.

Really enjoyed our weekend. Not sure if time of year but quieter at night than some other campgrounds we stay at which was nice.

We love camping here. Friendly staff. Clean bathrooms and showers. Kids have a great time on the playground, fishing off the dock and at the beach. Sites are shaded with lots of trees so even like last weekend when it was 90degrees it wasn’t bad.

There's a guy that's very disrespectful, yelled at us to move our tent didn't tell us where, then yelled at me for my campsite dirty after a storm, then yelled at me for having my service dog in the bathroom, yelled at me for driving 4 mph but there all allowed to drink and drive on there golf carts going 20. Would not recommend

We have never done camping before, I am a New Yorker.. my husband born and raised in Grand rapids Michigan.. we are city folk.. And I have to say we had an amazing time.. yes it wasn't glamping.. yes sleeping on the ground first day. next day we all got air mattresses.. My husband and I, daughter and her fiance.. and are five grandchildren..17, 11, two twin 8yr olds, and a precious cargo of all are 2 year old grandson.. We've learned a lot, we know how to become more prepared next time.. Which I think we did a great job..💪🏾💯🤜🏽🤛🏽💥🎉 We definitely will be back Christina. Owner.

We’re touring bicyclists that tent when we camp. This campground is one of the most pleasant we’ve visited. Nice restrooms. Great people. They don’t have primitive tent campsites but they’re regular sites work good and water, restrooms and shower always close by.
