Dauphin Island Campground
Overview
Dauphin Island Campground offers a unique coastal experience on the southern tip of Alabama. Spanning over 150 acres of lush landscape, the park is celebrated for its serene wooded campsites and direct access to both the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi Sound. Unlike highly manicured concrete resorts, this park focuses on preserving the authentic beauty of the barrier island for those who prefer a natural maritime forest setting just steps from the salt air.
Location & Surroundings
Situated on the eastern end of Dauphin Island, the campground is surrounded by an ecologically diverse coastal environment. The property is uniquely positioned directly adjacent to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary, which features 164 acres of trails and lakes. The surrounding area is characterized by ancient oaks and salt marshes. Because the island is accessible via a scenic high-rise bridge, campers enjoy a secluded getaway that remains conveniently connected to the mainland.

- 151 well-shaded campsites with full or partial hookup options
- Private guest beach access points exclusive to campground guests
- On-site laundry, modern bathhouses, and a dump station
For recreation, guests enjoy outdoor activities without leaving the grounds, utilizing the provided playground and covered pavilion for group gatherings.

A nice quiet campground just a short walk to the beach a shorter walk to the bird sanctuary. The staff are all amazing and friendly go out of the way to help out.

We stumbled across this place while traveling and needed a place to sleep. We chose this on a whim and ended up staying on the island for two nights because this campground gave us a welcoming and safe place to lay our head while explored the island. The ladies that work the shop and registration desk were full of helpful insights and seems happy to hand them out. We rearranged our trip on advice that they gave and we're happy that we did. We tent camped and while the sites are pretty much on top of each other as everything is in this RV park it didn't matter since everyone was respectful to the noise curfew and friendly. We spent most of our time away from the campsite so we didn't get to use most of the facilities such as the community center which hosted a magic show and a dance the weekend we were there. There is a dedicated fish cleaning station so that the bathrooms stay clean. We were able to take a short walk out to the beach one night and see the sunset.

We have always had a wonderful experience at Dauphin Island campground. The office staff is always friendly and helpful. We love the easy access to the beach, the fort, the aquarium, and BGH Cafe. The laundry area, bathrooms, and showers are very clean and the grounds are well maintained. Can't wait to return.

Spent 4 days Mid May (Tuesday afternoon thru Saturday late morning). Pretty quiet. Our site was shaded by a large tree but had to deal with the roots, not a big deal. The campground is dog friendly but be prepared for the campground cats that roam around. Mosquitoes came out just after sunset. The bathrooms and showers were clean. Easy walk to the beach.

I’m from Louisiana. We have a lot of wonderful campgrounds. So for me to give Dauphin Island Campground a five star, indicates that it’s remarkable. Pros- friendly staff, Donna, Nicole and Chasity. Walking distance to a private campground beach (pets allowed)! Bird Sanctuary, Historic Fort, and Aquarium all in walking distance. No fee to visit the Fort or Bird Sanctuary. Lots of trees, shade. Birds of blue, yellow, black, and red all in the campground. All birds are well fed by the campers. There are more birds at the campground than at the Sanctuary. Lots of colorful, beautiful beach houses. Peaceful. Friendly Alabama and Colorado neighbors. Southern Hospitality is the best. We ate at Pirate’s Pizza. Really good pizza! We went the week of Easter. The campground was full. But we didn’t see a large amount of people moving around. Cons: Water pressure was low. But doable.

We came in April 2025. First time here. Cute campground but they shoved us in between 2 campers and it was slim. We have a 36 ft Class A. Had to listen to the road and view a ferry port. Not enough to do on the island but if you want a slow pace, this is for you.
