Deer Spring RV Park

Overview

Deer Spring RV Park offers a serene mountain getaway nestled in the Sacramento Mountains of southern New Mexico. This park serves as a high-altitude sanctuary for those looking to escape the desert heat and enjoy the crisp air of the Lincoln National Forest. Known for its peaceful atmosphere and welcoming community, it provides a rustic yet comfortable base for exploring the surrounding wilderness while maintaining essential modern conveniences for both long-term and short-term stays.

Location & Surroundings

Located at an elevation of approximately 7,000 feet in Mayhill, NM, the park is surrounded by lush ponderosa pines and rolling hills. The climate here is significantly cooler than the nearby desert lowlands, making it a popular summer destination for travelers seeking relief. Guests often report frequent sightings of wildlife such as elk and deer passing through the grounds, enhancing the sense of being deeply immersed in nature without being completely isolated from the small-town charm of the local area.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a range of practical features designed for a hassle-free experience. Sites offer full hookups with 30 and 50-amp service to accommodate various rig sizes and power needs. On-site facilities include the following features to keep your stay comfortable:

  • Clean bathhouse and restroom facilities
  • Laundry machines for guest use
  • Reliable Wi-Fi access for staying connected
  • A communal fire pit area for social gatherings
The pet-friendly policy ensures that your four-legged companions can enjoy the mountain air and forest trails alongside you.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do within a short drive of the park grounds. The charming village of Cloudcroft is just a twenty-minute drive away, offering local shops, unique eateries, and high-altitude hiking trails. Visitors can explore the vast Lincoln National Forest for birdwatching, photography, and mountain biking. For a memorable day trip, the stunning white gypsum dunes of White Sands National Park are accessible, providing a stark and beautiful contrast to the green mountain scenery found in Mayhill.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for travelers who prefer a quiet, nature-centric environment over a high-traffic commercial resort. It is a perfect fit for retirees, seasonal travelers, and families looking for a slow-paced mountain retreat where they can unplug. If you value scenic mountain views and a cool climate more than organized activities or luxury swimming pools, Deer Spring RV Park provides the quietude and natural beauty necessary for a rejuvenating New Mexico road trip.

Beautiful park, well maintained and staff are great people to work with, this was our 4th year to spend a week in August for my husband's birthday. We love it and always sad to leave.

Beautiful RV resort. Spacious spots and very shady. Deer and elk everywhere, Beautiful brooks flowing through the park. You can sit and listen to to sounds of nature. Lots of birds to watch and great quiet place.

We went there by mistake and it was a great mistake. We had a wonderful time there. It was so peaceful, of course it was during the week, and picturesque. The park is very well maintained and our hosts are so hospitable. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. I will strongly recommend Deer Springs to my friends

Great RV park. Good location. Clean and well maintained. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Peaceful and quiet. Lots of trees for shade. Easy access off of Hwy 82 and 130 Will definitely stay there again when in the area. Only drawback was cell service not real good in that area.

What a great escape! Susie was incredibly nice and welcoming. The park was peaceful, CLEAN, and quiet. The bathrooms were top notch. We loved seeing deer roam freely, and the fresh mountain air was truly good for the soul. It was a wonderful visit — we’ll definitely be coming back!

We had such a nice and relaxing few day at Deer Springs. The owners are very kind and helpful. Everything at the campgrounds is very clean and green. My family really enjoyed watching the deer that visit the camp everyday. We noticed they have buddy sites as well, hopefully next year we can invite some friends and come back.

As stated in other reviews, this is a beautiful camp with large trees at each site. Lovely valley with beautiful nature scenery surrounding the park. Sites are large, pull through, and long enough for RV and toad. Full hookups conveniently located at each site. We have enjoyed this quiet and restful environment. The park is well maintained by the camp hosts. There is a clean laundry room, bathrooms, office area and lovely covered porch. Have not stayed at a park so well maintained in our travels. If you need Internet for on-line work or streaming, check out PVT. They provide, at reasonable price, excellent Internet access. The camp managers, Chuck and Sandy, are friendly and helpful. Have a problem? They will help. We made reservations for one month and soon decided to stay a second month. Reservations for next summer already in place.
