Dinosaur Natl Mon/Green River Campground
Overview
Green River Campground offers a scenic, riverfront setting beneath the shade of mature cottonwood trees within the Utah side of Dinosaur National Monument. While it leans toward a more rustic camping experience, its proximity to world-class paleontological sites makes it a highly sought-after destination for travelers visiting Jensen. The atmosphere is peaceful, defined by the natural beauty of the high desert and the gentle flow of the water nearby.
Location & Surroundings
Situated deep within the monument's borders, the park sits directly along the banks of the Green River, framed by striking sandstone cliffs and rugged desert terrain. The campground is conveniently located just four miles from the famous Quarry Exhibit Hall, providing seamless access to the area's primary attractions. This remote location ensures quiet nights and incredible stargazing opportunities far from the bright city lights of the Uinta Basin.
Amenities & Park Features
As a federal facility, this campground focuses on natural preservation rather than modern resort luxuries. It features paved parking pads that can accommodate various RV sizes, though it is important to note there are no electrical or water hookups available. During the peak season, guests have access to flush toilets and potable water. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, providing the essential components for a comfortable and traditional dry-camping experience.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The crown jewel of the area is the Wall of Bones, where visitors can view over 1,500 dinosaur fossils still embedded in the rock face. Beyond paleontology, the monument offers excellent hiking via the Fossil Discovery Trail and the Sound of Silence Trail. For those interested in cultural history, the nearby petroglyphs at Cub Creek offer a glimpse into the lives of the Fremont people who once inhabited this rugged and beautiful landscape.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an excellent choice for nature enthusiasts and families who want to stay inside the monument to maximize their exploration time. It is best suited for self-sufficient RVers who enjoy the solitude of dry camping and prioritize an authentic wilderness location over commercial amenities. If you are looking for a basecamp that provides immediate access to hiking, river rafting, and ancient history, this quiet riverside retreat is ideal.

Beautiful campground! Big campfire rings, nice picnic table, flushable toilets, and Potable water. Plenty of shade and right near the river. Heard an owl the entire trip. Saw frogs at night and lizards during the day. Coyote crossed the road in front of us. Dinosaur exhibit, petroglyphs, and rocks were really cool!!! The stars gazing was incredible!! Camp host was very nice! Would highly recommend!!

Very nice campground—I was in loop C and got a nice site that had a lot of tree cover so it didn’t get extremely hot even though the high was 93. However, there are not a whole lot of camp sites in loop C that do have good tree cover, so I could see how that would impact peoples opinions. Flush toilets in loop C were small, but very clean. Will definitely stay again.

My husband is from a family whose main mode of travel in the United States for decades was by camping. He spontaneously said that our camping experience at the Green River Campground ranked 9 out of 10 according to his history. He and I stayed two nights, July 11 and 12, truck and tent camping, our gear in the back of his Tacoma fitted with a camper shell. Adventuresome for a couple who have reached their early 70's. The camp-hosting was exceptional, activites available in the evenings, and multiple friendly visits to check-in with us and other campers; the facilities were clean and handy---nearby bathroom with stalls (no shower) and electrical outlets. The site for the campground is scenic, an oasis of green along the Green River, surrounded by sunwashed deserty earth colors. A couple of big cottonwood trees provided invaluable shade as late afternoon turned into evening. Good stargazing! Dinosaur National Monument dinosaur quarry is located a short drive away. We consider this experience a highlight from our summer.

My son found this campground as we were planning our father-son trip for 2025. I like to travel with a kayak so that I can spend some early morning time alone floating along. And this is a great place to do that. We had a really great tent camp site relatively close to the bathrooms and not too far from the water itself. The people working the campsite were very friendly and very helpful. And the campsite was very well maintained. It was nice to kind of find this little bit of an oasis in the middle of Utah. With excellent access to Moab and the surrounding areas, this served is a really great home base for several days while we explored the area.

This campground and the host are amazing! The views are spectacular, the amenities are clean, and the water is easy to get to even if you don't have a waterfront spot. Not to mention, we thought we reserved our spot over Memorial Day but had the wrong weekend & the host had a spot she saved for mistakes like that! We were so flustered & felt so bad about the confusion but she took such amazing care of us. We felt safe and were able to unplug here which is all I can ask of a campground and its host! 10/10 will be back again.

Absolutely beautiful location! Campsites are very nice, level with tent pads, fire ring and tables. Flush toilets and sinks are nice to have, but no showers. Bathrooms could've been cleaner, but not bad. Didn't give it 5 stars because the facilities are really showing their age. The bathrooms are in dire need of renovation, functional, but need updating.

Nice campground. Well maintained. Running water toilets, drinking water via spigot/fountains by restrooms. No electricity but then who needs electricity when camping. $9 with access pass. Some sites with afternoon shade. Nearby river and great views.
