Divide Bridge (BLM)

Overview

Divide Bridge is a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) campground situated along the banks of the iconic Big Hole River in Southwest Montana. Known for its accessibility and proximity to world-class fly fishing, this site offers a peaceful retreat for travelers seeking a more natural camping experience. Unlike commercial resorts, this location focuses on providing a direct connection to the rugged beauty of the Montana landscape. It serves as a primary access point for both boaters and anglers looking to explore the winding waters of the region.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located just south of the small community of Divide, tucked away in a scenic valley between the Pioneer and Highland Mountains. The surrounding terrain is characterized by rolling hills, cottonwood trees, and the rhythmic flow of the river. Visitors will find themselves immersed in a classic Montana setting where the sounds of the water and local wildlife define the atmosphere. The elevation provides cool evenings even during the summer months, making it a refreshing stop for those traveling through the Big Hole Valley.

Amenities & Park Features

As a BLM-managed site, the amenities at Divide Bridge are designed for self-contained travelers. The campground features several back-in sites equipped with picnic tables and metal fire rings. While there are no electrical or water hookups at the individual sites, the park provides access to vault toilets and a seasonal hand pump for drinking water. One of the most significant features of the park is the concrete boat ramp, which allows for easy launching of rafts and drift boats. The sites are generally level and can accommodate most moderately sized RVs and trailers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Fishing is the primary draw here, as the Big Hole River is famous for its wild trout populations. Anglers can spend days wading the banks or floating through the scenic canyons right from their doorstep. For those looking to explore further, the nearby Big Hole National Battlefield offers a somber and educational look into the history of the Nez Perce War. Hikers and explorers can also head into the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway to discover high-alpine lakes and the unique Crystal Park, where visitors can dig for quartz crystals in a beautiful mountain setting.

Who This Park Is Best For

Divide Bridge is an ideal choice for fly-fishing enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers who prefer a quiet, rustic environment over a busy resort. Because of its limited amenities, it is best suited for RVers who are comfortable with dry camping and have onboard power and water systems. It is a fantastic home base for small groups or solo travelers who want to spend their days on the water and their nights under the expansive Montana stars. If you value river access and natural serenity, this BLM gem is a perfect fit for your travel style.

Great place to get away or stay over traveling through. With 2 boat docks, day use area, hiking trails. Just far enough off the interstate not to hear road noise yet close enough to multiple towns should you need something. NO Cell service on site yet only 2 miles up the road 3+ bars. Great fishing that at the time of this post can actually earn you prizes and cash if you catch a tagged trout. Would stay all year round if allowed.

This is a $15 per night ($7.50 with senior pass) campground. While there are no hookups, there are water spigots in the campground. There are picnic tables and grills at each spot. There are a few spots next to the river. Many spots are long enough for a big rig. First come first serve...no reservations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Bob and Melinda are probably the most wonderful hosts we have ever met. We have stayed at this camp on a few different occasions. It's very well tended. Clean and quiet. Even when there are a lot of other campers. God blesses this place.

This campground was clean, quiet and peaceful. Next to the Big Hole river, woke in the morning to the breeze in the trees and the sounds of the river. Going back again! It's a first come first serve campground. Beautiful!

This should be a 5 star campsite, good host, good location, well maintenance but, since the vicious misquote is also part of this campground, I can't give it 5 star. The River is just by the campsite super cool, but that's that kind of river you don't want to go swim, and that kind of River mosquito loves to gather. You get an idea. Still, this is a great camping spot, not for bike or tent guy definitely. 😀

Just a quick overnight but cute spot. We'll come back and stay a but when it's warmer! Clean pit toilets and good water available.

Out of toilet paper at first but then they made up for that, no water there in the fall no electricity, lots of noise from the generators!
