Ellacoya
Overview
Ellacoya State Park offers a quintessential New Hampshire lakeside experience on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. Unlike more rustic state park options, this destination provides a small but well-maintained campground that caters specifically to the RV community. With its stunning mountain views and direct access to one of the state's largest lakes, it serves as a peaceful retreat for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Lakes Region.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Gilford, the park occupies a prime spot on the southwest shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. The landscape is defined by the expansive 600-foot sandy beach and clear waters, framed by the distant peaks of the Sandwich and Ossipee mountains. Its proximity to Route 11 makes it easily accessible for larger rigs, while the surrounding area remains lush and forested, providing a scenic buffer from the busier tourist hubs nearby.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground features 38 campsites, many of which offer full three-way hookups for water, sewer, and electricity. This makes it a rare find among state-managed parks for RVers who prefer modern conveniences. The park includes a large bathhouse with flushing toilets and hot showers, as well as a dedicated changing area for beachgoers. Visitors can enjoy picnic tables and fire rings at each site, ensuring a classic camping atmosphere alongside the essential utilities.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do just minutes from the park entrance. Gunstock Mountain Resort is a short drive away, offering hiking, mountain biking, and zip-lining during the summer months. For those seeking entertainment, the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion hosts major concerts throughout the season. Additionally, the historic boardwalk at Weirs Beach provides traditional lakeside fun, including arcades, cruises, and local dining options for the whole family.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal choice for families and couples who want a balance of outdoor recreation and comfort. Because of its limited number of sites and high demand for lakefront access, it is best for travelers who plan ahead. It is particularly well-suited for beach lovers and those attending local events in Gilford or Laconia who want a scenic home base rather than a standard roadside RV lot. If you value direct water access and mountain scenery, this park fits your style perfectly.

As a longtime user and guest of NH State Parks throughout the state, Ellacoya enjoys an amazing location, with decent sized sites, and a bathroom and bathhouse that leaves much to be desired. 🤢🤮 Was honestly surprised by the total lack of care during out stay, which is far outside the norm, for all CGs we visit. 😢

Excellent place to use as a base as you can in your RV. Right on the shore with a beautiful beach and a wonderful view of lake winnipensaukee

A. Rustic Park with full hookups on level ground. Large sites, some are pull through. Clean restrooms and laundry facilities. An adjacent State Park Beach is really lovely, with sculpted grounds and a nice beach store with everything you need for the day. Nice supermarkets and a tractor supply store within a very short drive. Beautiful views of the lake from the the sites closest to it. This place books up fast and rarely has any openings.

Ellacoya State Park is clean, calm, and perfect for families or anyone looking to relax. The water was clear and refreshing, and the views of Lake Winnipesaukee are absolutely stunning. Plenty of space to enjoy, not overly crowded, and the whole vibe is very peaceful. Parking was convenient, and everything felt well-maintained. A lovely spot for a quiet walk along the shore or just dipping your feet in and soaking up nature

We went to the beach part, not real big but has nice views of the lake. It has a playground

Although we avoid RV parks bc of the culture, we needed a stop so we stayed here one night en route. Even though the camp was filled with huge RVs, all sorts of toys, and kids, it was quiet and clean, and everyone was nice, including the staff. We had water and electric hookup, and there are also sewer hookups (which we don’t have). The bathrooms are clean, and they have nice (pay) showers, and (pay) laundry. The only minor quibbles are: 1. No campfire ring at our site 2. Bathrooms are locked overnight 3 and even the shadiest spots get full sun at noon. You can read about the park itself in other reviews. Being quarters!

This was our first time to Ellacoya State Park. Beautiful beach, nice playground, clean bathrooms, camping grills,Volleyball ground. We had good time. Even we went on long weekend it wasn’t crowded. Lots of picnic tables.

Great location, staff, and lake views! Full hookups with easily accessible RV slots. No tent camping. Closes on Columbus day for the season. Slots are adequately sized but neighbors are near and visible about 30 or so on either side of you. Day use only area and a boat launch ramp here also.
