Enota Mountain Retreat

Overview

Enota Mountain Retreat offers a unique escape located within 122 acres of lush forest in the North Georgia Mountains. Functioning as a non-profit conservation facility, this park emphasizes a deep connection to nature and sustainable living. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, providing a quiet sanctuary far removed from the hustle of city life. The property is known for its commitment to environmental stewardship, featuring an on-site organic farm and a peaceful, spiritual atmosphere that distinguishes it from standard commercial campgrounds.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the scenic town of Hiawassee, Georgia, the retreat is nestled at the base of the state's highest mountains. The landscape is defined by two rushing trout streams and a dense canopy of hardwoods and evergreens. This high-elevation setting ensures cooler mountain temperatures even during the peak of summer, making it a refreshing destination for RV travelers. The surrounding wilderness creates a natural soundscape of flowing water and wind through the trees, reinforcing the feeling of being completely off the grid.

Amenities & Park Features

The park caters to RVers with varied needs, providing pull-through and back-in sites with full hookups including water, sewer, and electricity. Guests can enjoy several unique features on the property:

  • Four on-site waterfalls that are easily accessible via walking paths.
  • A certified animal sanctuary where guests can feed goats and chickens.
  • A general store providing spring water and local organic produce.

Multiple hiking trails weave throughout the expansive acreage, and the two clear mountain streams are perfect for wading or catch-and-release fishing.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure is never far away, as the retreat is just a short drive from Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia, which offers panoramic views of four different states. Water enthusiasts can head to Lake Chatuge for a day of boating, fishing, or swimming. For a taste of European charm, the nearby town of Helen provides Alpine-themed shopping and dining experiences. Additionally, the proximity to the Appalachian Trail allows for world-class hiking opportunities, making it a prime base camp for exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature lovers and families who value an educational and tranquil environment over traditional resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for eco-conscious travelers looking to support sustainable land management while enjoying a rustic camping experience. This place traps and abuses volunteers! Sounds great over the phone but upon arrival the evil is revealed. I had a terrible experience. The only redeeming part was the other people in the same boat as me, we bonded and made the best of it until we could leave. I don’t recommend anyone volunteer under her program! I regret deciding to move there.

I called to check their availability and was answered with a hello that sounded slightly annoyed and I asked if I called the right place and she snapped yes. I said I was calling to check their availability and she said no we don’t with the same rude snappy tone. Needless to say they will not be getting my money ever. Do better

I just left there after spending 10 months as a volunteer. The first 4 months I received zero pay and was not provided food and was told to eat rotten food that was from 2013 in a school bus. The pictures are misleading as the trout pond is currently empty and devoid of fish and the spigots ALL spew red rust at first and sand from the 4 inch main pipe break coming off the 10000 gallon tank. I was not allowed to fix it even thou the sleeve to do so had arrived. The negative reinforcement and continuous threats left me with PTSD. This is a warning to anyone thinking about volunteering there....save yourself and your soul from this degraded place. ALL the gas tools are broken and you are told to figure it out and make do with what's there. I had no where to go and she knew that and abused that. She tells you one thing on the phone all nice and caring and once in Charlotte's Web she does a 360 and treats people with under lack of any decency. She bought cattle prods to zap the volunteers that were unruly but none of the staff would even consider such an atrocity to another human being. I watched many many people come and realize that they had been bamboozled. This is the nice review because I wont go there to the darkness that eminated from there. Have a blessed day and stay away!

Our first trip to Enota Mountain Retreat was nothing short of amazing. The owners went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and had everything we needed for the entirety of our stay. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the trampolines and the farm animals. The cabin was very comfortable. I loved that we were able to enjoy the peaceful stream by sitting on our deck and the scenic views within the campground were breathtaking. We will definitely be returning!

I understand that experiences are different for everyone but I was a little worried about some of these negative reviews. I spent 4 days and 3 nights here and even though it rained almost all weekend, we still had tons of fun. I stayed in RV spot 7 and I had plenty of space for my 25’ trailer and a large tent. I like the built-in decks on each site, water pressure was excellent and power was not an issue. The farm was cool and the two waterfall hikes were not difficult and provided a nice scenery. The town of Helen is 20 minutes away and there is another waterfall hike nearby, about a 10 minutes drive. The entrance to the campground needs a little work but nothing that ruins the experience, the front desk girl, Lauren, was a sweetheart, a pleasure to talk to and full of advise. They held a bonfire and have different activities throughout the day and night like feeding the animals in the farm. The handiman would drive around several times a day and seem attentive and friendly. Overall, this is a great campground, a little on the expensive side but there’s plenty to do in the campground and the surrounding areas. I’m going to book another trip here next year and see the rest of the stuff I missed. The one negative I got from this place but not enough to remove a star is the owner should be nicer to her employees, no need to be rude to them in front of the customers. The owner was nice to us though.

We love Enota! We have gone two summers a row and are probably going back at Christmas. It so beautiful and peaceful. We love that we can park our RV right next to the stream and sit out by a fire and listen to the water. You can walk around and enjoy the beauty and hiking up to the waterfall is beautiful. The family thoroughly enjoys the farm and we love the friendly animals which are cows, lots of goats, ponies and we especially love the pig Henrietta! There are also some friendly cats on the property. We would visit the farm every day. The drive into Enota is not bad at all like some have said. We have a very large RV and tow a Jeep behind it and we have never had any problems. Our youngest son loves the trampolines and likes to get in the stream in certain areas. The town of Helen is not too far away and it’s a nice place to shop and eat. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, beautiful camping experience this is a great place!

Enota was great very nice people and the scenery with the laurel in bloom is breathtaking. The campsites are mostly placed around streams that run constantly. Great sleeping. The campground itself could use a good sprucing up a pressure washer would go a long way if they cannot replace things. We could see that the place was once the go to place for day camps etc. When we checked in we were the only ones there and the owners bent over backwards making sure we were happy. They checked on us a couple times during the week to make sure all was well. We cannot wait to go back.

An awesome spot for folks wanting to get away and unplug, but you still have access to wifi if needed. The new family running the place has brought great energy, and excited to see all that is to come! The community aspect is unique and comfortable, making it great for families, groups, retreats.

This place is an absolute DUMP!! STAY AWAY!! We booked this place for two weeks last October (2021). The entrance road was awful! Full of large rocks and ruts. It was insanely expensive! The roads were deep in mud, the site was awful. Right on top of the site next door! We were without water for 7 of the 14 days, and without power for one full day. No compensation for the terrible inconvenience. The owner expected her workers to repair the damage despite the fact that not one was licensed to do so. We had a 20x20x10 ft deep PIT in front of our site where the plumbing main had ruptured. The kept trying, unsuccessfully, to patch the leak. Owner said a plumber was not available??? Found out later that the owner is deep in debt to any and all contractors in the area so no one would consider coming to fix the problem. When we left, and keep in mind there were no other campgrounds available in the area for the time we were there, we had to pull our motorhome up a ramp to the laundry to avoid the pit. The bathroom was filthy and they actually had cleaning supplies with a note asking guests to clean it! The laundry room had no washer or dryer in it. This is a HORRIBLE PLACE! If this is all you can get, just cancel your trip! I wish someone had taken the time to write a report like mine so I could have canceled my trip.

Marvelous! The spot had serene rivers, amazing waterfalls and some very sweet and friendly barn animals. We went as a group and booked the cabin. Everyone enjoyed the space at lot. Would surely come back again. The owner has high values and her mission to preserve the space is amazing.
