Evergreen Park (Sanilac County Park)

Overview

Evergreen Park is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Michigan’s Thumb region. Managed by Sanilac County, this 101-acre destination offers a peaceful retreat for RVers looking to escape the hustle of more crowded commercial resort destinations. The park is characterized by its lush canopy of mature trees and its scenic positioning along the Cass River, providing a quiet atmosphere where nature takes center stage and the sounds of the forest provide a soothing backdrop for your stay.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just a few miles from the small town of Cass City, the park offers a perfect balance of seclusion and convenience. The Cass River winds gracefully along the park’s boundary, offering beautiful waterfront views and opportunities for gentle water-based activities. The surrounding landscape consists of fertile farmlands and dense woodlands, making the drive into the park as relaxing as the stay itself. It serves as a central hub for exploring the rural charm and natural beauty of Sanilac County.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 147 sites designed to accommodate various camping styles, from big rigs to smaller trailers. Many sites offer full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity, while others provide a more rustic experience for those who prefer to be closer to nature. Visitors can enjoy a round on the 18-hole disc golf course, utilize the well-maintained shower and laundry facilities, or gather at the large picnic pavilions. The park also maintains several miles of walking trails that weave through the forest and along the riverbank.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do both within and just outside the park gates. The Cass River is ideal for kayaking and fishing, with easy access points for those bringing their own watercraft to enjoy the slow-moving current. A short drive away, the Sanilac Petroglyphs Historic State Park offers a unique look at ancient Native American carvings on sandstone. For those needing supplies or a local meal, Cass City provides charming small-town shops and essential services just minutes down the road.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for family-oriented travelers who appreciate a natural, quiet setting over high-energy commercial parks. It is particularly well-suited for those who enjoy birdwatching, hiking, and river activities like canoeing or fishing. RVers seeking a clean, well-maintained county park with spacious, shaded sites will find Evergreen Park to be an excellent home base for exploring the Michigan Thumb or simply unwinding under the pines.

Evergreen is truly a hidden gem, and Joe and his staff are nothing short of exceptional! I camped here years ago as a kid and early teen and, honestly, didn’t enjoy it back then—there wasn’t much to do, and the seasonal campers weren’t particularly welcoming. But wow, how things have changed! The improvements to the park are incredible, and the atmosphere now is warm, inclusive, and fun—largely thanks to Joe and his amazing team. They’ve created a community that truly feels like family. Last year, I organized a group tubing trip at another campground in Sterling, MI, and I can confidently say I won’t be going back there. Evergreen, by comparison, has a handicap-accessible kayak launch—an amazing feature that shows how thoughtful and accommodating they’ve become. We stayed in a cabin with a private bedroom, and it was absolutely perfect—clean, cozy, and comfortable. Joe went out of his way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves, and every staff member we met was kind, welcoming, and genuinely cared about our experience. This is more than just a campground—it’s a place where great memories are made. Highly recommended!

This was our first time staying here, we have been camping for 30 years and we have to say, this is one of the best campgrounds we’ve been to. The pines section where we camped was incredible. You actually feel like you’re in the woods camping and have some privacy. It wasn’t jammed packed like other campgrounds with no trees. The full hooks up were modern and really nice and well taken care of. The site was incredibly clean upon our arrival. The trails are amazingly well groomed and we hiked them multiple times. The playground looks newer and there are new pavilions there too. On the river there are 2 more pavilions , a playground, horseshoe pits and a kayak launch. The staff was super friendly, they even had a bbq food truck show up Saturday and the food was great! There is also rustic camping right on the river which we thought was awesome for tent campers. I did fish the river and caught 6 rock bass and 2 pike so there is some good fishing to be had for sure! We loved it so much that we will be back for sure!

Love this campground. They have a large playground for the kids, a pond for them to swim. You are right next to the Cass River and the best part...you can park your travel trailer between the evergreens!

Great place to camp! Almost all sites are full hook up. Some sites are very large. Many pull thru, wooded sites and some in full sun! Restrooms are always clean and they are always updating and very pleasant to everyone. Halloween decorations were really really good. The local gas stations serve really BIG ice cream! Dollar General is only a couple miles away. But Cass City, and Marlette has larger stores, Bens supermarket is a good place to shop. We always enjoy our stays here. Only draw back is lack of cell or internet service. Basically nothing unless you're in front of the office.

We came to the area for a family reunion, and our locally-stationed family members recommended the park as a potential place to camp. We reserved one of the rustic sites for 2 nights. They also have a lot of camper/RV Sites. What a blast! Our site was beautiful: located RIGHT on the river. There were no trees on the site itself, so you’ll want a canopy for shade if camping in the heat of summer. We were camping in September, and the weather was perfect. Easy to get our parking pass and to get set up. The premises are well maintained, the staff is friendly, and they clearly plan events that are family/community friendly (while we were there they hosted a haunted house, a chili cook-off, a pumpkin bowling contest, a site-decorating contest…. It was eventful! I have a medical challenge that requires easy access to a working restroom, and I found the trek to and from our campsite to be reasonable and well-lit at night. There were 2 roomy shower stalls (1 handicap accessible) and plenty of sinks/bathroom stalls (1 handicap accessible) in the ladies’ section of the bathroom. They have wood available for site fire pits at $5/bundle (as of 2023). I definitely recommend this park/campsite!

My son and daughter-in-law go to this campground every summer, they really like it. I went to visit them for the day, it was really full. They have showers, running water 💦, & a play area for kids. Some of the sites seem close, but others are nicely spaced. There are lots of trees for shade. At night it seems to be nice & quiet. There were lots of kids, but the parents didn't just let them run all over the place. They also have electricity, & sewage dump on site. The people that run the campground seem very nice. There are people there who stay there seasonally. The campground is very nicely maintained. It is a smaller campground. If you are ever in the area, you really need to give it a try. I hope you like it as well.

The place is a nice campground.. a lot bigger than I expected.. a few things for the kids to do play ground, swimming,.. Some of the places are a bit small... a bit challenging to get in you can park anyway you want.. have some really nice pull thrus.. but you need to reserve way ahead to get in those places..
