Fields Spring
Overview
Fields Spring State Park offers a serene escape within the Blue Mountains of southeastern Washington. Spanning over 800 acres, this forested park sits at a high elevation of nearly 4,000 feet, providing a cool retreat during the summer months and a snowy wonderland in the winter. It is known for its lush stands of Ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir, offering a quiet atmosphere far removed from the bustle of urban life and modern distractions.
Location & Surroundings
Located just south of Anatone, WA, the park is situated on the edge of the spectacular Grande Ronde River canyon. The surrounding terrain is characterized by rolling hills and dense forests that transition into dramatic basalt cliffs. Visitors often remark on the crisp mountain air and the expansive views from Puffer Butte, a prominent high point within the park boundaries that allows for a clear sightline into three different states on a sunny day.
Amenities & Park Features
The park provides a mix of utility sites and standard sites suitable for RV travelers looking for a more traditional, nature-focused camping experience. While the facilities are geared toward a rustic stay, campers have access to restrooms and hot showers to ensure comfort during their visit. For those traveling with larger groups, the park also features historic lodges and picnic shelters that reflect the classic architectural craftsmanship of the Pacific Northwest.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation is the primary draw here, with miles of trails available for hiking and mountain biking. During the winter, the park transforms into a hub for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Just a short drive away, visitors can explore the Grande Ronde River for world-class fishing or venture further toward the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area to experience the deepest river gorge in North America.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for RVers who prioritize peace and solitude over resort-style amenities. If you enjoy primitive beauty, wildlife watching, and a slower pace of travel, Fields Spring will feel like home. It is particularly well-suited for nature photographers and outdoor enthusiasts who want a quiet, scenic basecamp for exploring the rugged terrain and unique geology of the Inland Northwest.

Went hiking here up to the cabin. Nice look out with a restroom. There is firewood available for the stove inside the cabin and a couple plywood pots, bring a pad if you plan to sleep there.

Very cool very out of the way campground, with beautiful views up in the mountains, lots of hiking, has showers has nice picnic area and play area for kids, camp sites are large.

Beautiful park! Didn't realize teepees were available for use. Spent time here Summer of 1980 as a teen helping to clear brush & rebuild park trails -- was a neat experience.

For campground only: nice campground some spots are def better than others. I picked 15 I believe but if I had neighbors (17 & 18?) could've been kinda awkward. BUT $32 a night?!? This isn't an RV spot with hook ups. Nice place but WAY overpriced. And this is the "shoulder season" rates...

Nice, smaller campground. Campsites are nicely spaced, and mostly shady. Back from main highway far enough that there was minimal traffic noise. It's a nice hike out to Puffer Butte, with gorgeous views.
