Florence Marina

Overview

Florence Marina State Park offers a quiet escape on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in Southwest Georgia. Known for its extensive deepwater marina and direct access to the massive 45,000-acre Lake Walter F. George, this destination is a premier haven for water enthusiasts and those seeking peace. The park seamlessly blends local history with natural beauty, providing a serene environment where the slow pace of the river dictates the daily rhythm of your stay. It serves as a quiet alternative to busier lakeside resorts while maintaining excellent facilities for long-term or short-term travelers.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the small community of Omaha, Georgia, the park sits at the northern end of the reservoir also known as Lake Eufaula. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the rolling coastal plains and lush, moss-draped riverbank vegetation common to the deep south. This area of the state remains relatively remote, offering a true dark-sky environment for evening stargazing and a peaceful retreat far from the sounds of major highway traffic or urban sprawl. The park is nestled right where the river widens, creating a dramatic and scenic backdrop for every campsite.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV campground provides well-maintained sites equipped with reliable water and electrical hookups. Many of the sites are spacious enough to accommodate larger rigs and offer shaded spots beneath a canopy of mature hardwood trees. The park’s primary centerpiece is the full-service marina, which features multiple boat slips and a convenient fuel dock for those bringing their own vessels. Visitors also have access to the Kirbo Interpretive Center, which showcases the area's natural history and prehistoric artifacts, alongside essential facilities like clean bathhouses, picnic shelters, and laundry rooms.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Boating and record-breaking fishing are the primary draws for visitors, with anglers frequently targeting largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish in the fertile waters. Just a short drive away lies the breathtaking Providence Canyon State Park, famously known as Georgia's Little Grand Canyon, which offers stunning hiking trails and vibrant orange geological formations. History buffs will enjoy exploring the nearby town of Lumpkin or taking a short trip to see the historic Westville village, which provides a window into 19th-century life in the Southeast.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for anglers and boaters who prioritize direct water access and a reliable place to launch their craft for a day on the lake. It is also an excellent fit for nature photographers and families seeking a quiet, natural basecamp for exploring the unique ecological wonders of the region. If you prefer tranquil waterfront views and a slow-paced atmosphere over high-traffic commercial resorts, Florence Marina provides the perfect balance of outdoor recreation and southern solitude.

We reserved an efficiency cabin a month ago to save money. It was bare bones, adequate for our basic needs, clean and comfortable. We had two double beds. They were comfortable, but too small for the two of us. The second night was better since we each had our own bed. The bathroom was small, and clean, with fluffy towels and every thing we needed - including plenty of hot water. The plastic mat in the tub kept me from slipping, and appreciative of bath mat & fan. Medicine cabinet with two mirrors was also appreciated. The flat screen television had plenty of channels. Unfortunately we kept losing the signal for the channels we liked (NBC was stuck on a dishwasher and CBS was stuck on a weather map one night & the CarFax Fox the next day). Husband was thankful that he could watch the Yankees/Blue Jays games 10/7/25 without incident. The second night we had absolutely no problems. Nice! The loveseat was comfortable to sit in to read and watch TV. The kitchen had everything we needed - working stove, coffee maker, microwave, full size fridge with freezer, sink and cabinets & drawers with everything we needed for meal prep & eating. We loved walking down to the marina to see the sunsets and lily pads. The weather was perfect. We did see some stars, but the Super Moon was so bright that we couldn't see more. The employees were friendly and helpful. Anthony helped us check in after hours. We did not realize that we needed to arrive before 5. We arrived at 5:30. He accompanied us to our cabin to be sure our entry code worked. It did! He was wonderful!! The next day Toya gave us our hang tag for the car and receipt for our stay. She was kind and patient. When we checked out, Anthony was with Toya at the visitor center. He helped us get ice from the ice machine outside. He started our stay here on a positive note, and ended our visit here on a positive note! He is one of the reasons we really enjoyed our stay here. Next time we'll bring friends. Then we can upgrade to the two bedroom cabin! We really hope Anthony will be here!

This is a well kept state park. The bathrooms are clean and there was even a flower arrangement on the sink. There was a fully accessible shower stall for wheelchair users and handicapped parking for the bath house. The site was large, level and clear. We were probably over an ant hill however (not fire ants.) The price was reasonable and overall I would recommend.

We used the boat ramp. Easy to get into and out. One ramp. One dock. Small gator was present. Went 20mi south down to eufala. No issues on the water. Lots of place to fish. Seen a few gators. There were public bathrooms at the ramp. $5 parking via online pay. 24/7 access.

This scenic campground tucked deep into the woods offers a peaceful escape right on the edge of Alabama. All campsites are pull-thru with full hookups, making it a practical and quiet spot for RV travelers. A nearby lake provides boat rentals for just $35 per 4 hours—affordable and serene. There’s also a fishing pier, but be warned: we saw a 12-foot alligator. Locals claim they’re not dangerous to humans, but it’s wise to keep kids and pets far from the water. The campground is remote, with very few nearby activities. The highlight is a beautiful 3-mile trail in a small canyon about 15 minutes away—definitely worth the short drive. Beyond that, expect minimal entertainment within a 30-minute radius. During our stay, we experienced intense thunderstorms with heavy rain and lightning, which locals said is common here. This campground is ideal for those looking to disconnect and enjoy undisturbed nature.

Had a wonderful time. The people are so friendly and helpful. The cottages are newly remodeled with large screened in porches. Just a few miles from Providence Canyon (don't miss that experience).

Florence Marina is just down the road from Providence Canyon, so we visited it also. It is a very beautiful lake and park. The park rangers are very friendly my daughters earned their first junior ranger pin here.

Great place to take the family for a quiet, secluded weekend get away. Park staff and volunteers are super friendly and helpful. Picturesque views of the water and old oak trees with moss dangling down from them. Providence Canyon (Georgia's Little Grand Canyon) and Alabama are mere minutes away. We visited Eufaula, Alabama to see the city where Sweet Home Alabama was filmed and grab a few groceries (about 30 minutes away). One thing to note is that there is not a gas station or grocery store within 30 minutes of the park, so be sure to bring what you need and plan accordingly. Also, the trip in to the park is mainly back roads, so again be sure top off with gas completely before heading out to the park. Plenty of fishing areas to fish from, putt-putt for evening fun, parks for the kids, and an interpretive center is onsite. Park has a couple of handicap accessible pull through sites available. Handicap placard is required to reserve and occupy.

Providence canyon nearby is really cool. The park is on the Chattahoochee River and it was really pretty, but we only had kayaks and were land fishing and was hard to find anything bigger than a small catfish. There is abundance of gators in the water and you can tell they've been fed. Great place if you have a boat, not sure if you can rent any from there, we did not ask. They have a mini golf course and the supplies for it in the main store where you check in and they also have some essentials there and live bait and tackle. The store is open 8 to 5 and the campground host available from 5 to 9. We were on site 43 and there was no shade. So hot. It was up to 103° outside. Also, gnats at night. There is full hook ups, a fire bit and a grill. We ended up leaving this campground early because after seeing the canyon we ran out of things to do to beat the heat other than sit in the camper. Great place for quiet, classic camping.
