Glendo

Overview

Glendo State Park is a premier outdoor destination in Wyoming, centered around the expansive **Glendo Reservoir**. This park is a magnet for water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers, offering a rugged, high-plains landscape that contrasts beautifully with the deep blue waters of the **North Platte River**. Whether you are arriving for a weekend of fishing or a longer stay to explore the trail system, the park provides a refreshing escape into Wyoming’s wilder side while balancing scenic vistas with functional camping facilities.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Platte and Converse counties, the park is easily accessible via **Interstate 25**, making it a convenient stop for those traveling through eastern Wyoming. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, pine-covered ridges, and sandy beaches that line the reservoir’s edge. The surrounding area is relatively remote, offering a quiet atmosphere where the night skies are exceptionally clear. Visitors will find themselves immersed in an environment where **pinyon pines** and rocky outcrops overlook the water, creating a sense of isolation.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features multiple campgrounds with diverse setups, including **electric hookups** at several loops and numerous primitive sites for a more rustic experience. RVers will appreciate the well-maintained **dump stations** and access to potable water located throughout the park. For boaters, there are several concrete launch ramps and a marina that provides essentials for a day on the water. The park also maintains over **45 miles of non-motorized trails**, which are expertly designed for both mountain biking and hiking, providing varied terrain for all skill levels.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities dominate the scene, with **walleye fishing** being a major draw for many visitors. The reservoir is also popular for boating, jet skiing, and paddleboarding. On land, the extensive trail network offers incredible views of the dam and the surrounding canyon. For those willing to venture a short distance, the nearby **Guernsey State Park** offers historic Civilian Conservation Corps architecture and the Oregon Trail Ruts. Additionally, the area provides unique opportunities for wildlife viewing, where it is common to spot mule deer and pronghorn.

Who This Park Is Best For

Glendo is an ideal match for **active outdoor enthusiasts** who prioritize access to water and trails over resort-style luxuries. It is a fantastic choice for families looking for a beach-like experience in the heart of the Mountain West, as well as **anglers and boaters** who need easy reservoir access. While it lacks some of the high-end amenities of private RV resorts, its natural beauty and recreational variety make it perfect for travelers who enjoy a mix of adventure and tranquility in a high-desert setting.

This park was a nice place to go for a hike. Loved the red soil. They have picnic tables all around so we got to do a little picnic after our hike.

Absolutely gorgeous! It was my youngest son's first camping trip and we couldn't have chosen a more beautiful spot! If you're visiting Wyoming, Glendo is a must!

Fun lake! The Sandy Beaches are a huge bonus. We rented a boat and spent the whole day in the water. Kids and adults all had so much fun. Can't wait to visit again

It was good. Not any close stores. There was a Fire ban so no campfire unless it’s propane. You have to drive pretty much everywhere depending on where your staying

WOWZER!! This place is incredible...beyond words. I could totally live here. There are so many different areas to get to. Lots of camping and RV'n areas we only made it to part of it and the 12 it cost us to get in was worth it. It was man made and they did a great job. Be proud.

This park is absolutely beautiful. We will definitely be back after our 3 night stay at Sandy Beach Dune. Our spot was right on the water but since the water level is lower this year the beach activities were further away. Be aware spots near the shore lines have a ton of ants. They do not bite you but are on everything and everywhere. The beach was absolutely clean and the views were incredible.

My husband and I are Wyomingites and have been coming here for years. Summer 2021 we came throughout the summer a few times. They are not taking care of this place anymore. Last year there was a fire ban all summer and it’s obvious why when there were tree branches laying around everywhere from the wind. They did not clean up the branches all summer. The lake kept getting smaller and smaller as the water went further away from the campsites. It was not being refilled. The bathrooms were never cleaned except for one away from the campsites that looked like it was clean every day. On top of this they started charging $5 more a night. They need to take care of this place better especially when they are going to charge more fees.
