It serves as an ideal base for those looking to explore the rolling hills and cultural highlights of Central New York while enjoying outdoor recreation.

Situated just eight miles outside of historic Cooperstown, the park is characterized by its rolling hills and lush woodlands. The landscape is dominated by the Otsego Lake shoreline, providing a refreshing backdrop for summer travelers. Visitors will find the environment particularly quiet, offering a secluded atmosphere that feels a world away from the bustle of the village center.

Other local highlights include the Farmers Museum and the Fenimore Art Museum, which showcase the rural heritage of the region. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the park’s proximity to the Susquehanna River headwaters offers excellent opportunities for kayaking and fishing.
Who This Park Is Best For
Glimmerglass is best suited for nature-loving families and history enthusiasts who prefer the quiet surroundings of a state park over a busy commercial resort. It is a fantastic choice for RVers who prioritize lake access and hiking over high-end amenities like cable or Wi-Fi. If you enjoy a traditional camping vibe where the evening entertainment consists of a campfire and stargazing, this park will perfectly fit your travel style.

Glimmerglass state park ia a beautiful place to swim in the summer and hike in the fall. In the winter you can snowshoe and ice skate. You can take a tour of Hyde Hall and walk the covered bridge trail. The hikes are easy, we'll marked and visitor friendly.

This is a beautiful state park on Lake Otsego, not far from Copperstown and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Make sure you get water at the DUMP Station. Some idiot put all old fashioned bathroom faucets at the campground so people can't use a hose to fill their trailers holding tanks. You can only get BUCKETS of water! Thats okay for a nonelectric campsite but not for the RV side. The park itself is beautiful and close to Cooperstown and has a trail through the oldest covered bridge in the US.

It was my first time to this State Park. Went on a very busy 4th of July weekend but had a great visit. There were a TON of people there, but the staff was on top of everything! From checking in, to parking, to lifeguards... it was a very well kept park. There were a number of trails and a lovely lake. Some trails had some voice boxes that you had to manually turn with some information given. It was a really neat thing that I had never seen before. Some other things that I noticed were a basketball court, place to get snacks and beverages (I believe it was cash only), beautiful wild flowers, camp grounds, covered bridge, playground, indoor restrooms, and plenty more I'm sure I missed with the group I visited with.

Camping here on our way across NYS. Easy access from main highways. Lovely view of lake ostego. Laughing lion trail was pleasant. Did not do the tour but looked like fun. Site 39 in primitive area was quite nice. Free Showers in main camping area. Lots of day use it appears based on size of parking lot. Would stay again. Close to cooperstown. Oh yes, great friendly staff.

Glimmerglass State Park is amazing!! It's a perfect blend of almost a beach and an amazing park rolled into one! I have been here many many times and rent kayaks and paddle around in what almost seems like a marsh right under the most beautiful old covered bridge. I highly recommend this place for a beautiful fun filled day for everyone!

Very nice lakefront beach. Large, clean changing rooms. Tons of parking. Attentive lifeguards. Shaded grassy area for picnics. Snack bar, but cash only.

Laurence scouts troope 10 moving up ceremony weekend / camping badges. There are multiple personal grilling stations as well as fire pits located at your tent zones. The hiking trails are clearly visible even in rainy conditions all the scouts enjoyed the 2-mile hike that they did in the all-day rain. If you want a place where you can go and get away from technology some what is a perfect area it's got signs up everywhere no drone zone. During the time that my family and the other Scouts were there there was a 5k / 10K run walk event going on from the main Beach. For sanitation there is plenty of porta potties they do have a shower house / bath house you can bring your pets just would need your shots records and tags. They do offer would on sight as you first enter the park. All in all it was a peaceful experience an even when it rains they have the availability for those who may be looking for an activity to do where you can go on the tour of the grounds Maine house which they do three different types of toys one of them just so happens to be a quote haunted/ghost tour. There are plenty of pavilions and multiple playgrounds to keep occupied while watching the water and staring up at the stars
