Greenwood Lodge & Campsites

Overview

Greenwood Lodge & Campsites offers a serene escape within the lush landscape of the Green Mountain National Forest. Located in the high-elevation town of Woodford, this park is less of a commercial resort and more of a quiet, natural basecamp for outdoor enthusiasts and families. Visitors can expect a peaceful atmosphere where the focus remains on the surrounding woods and the historic lodge that serves as the social heart of the property. It has long been a favored stop for those traveling through the scenic corridors of southern Vermont.

Location & Surroundings

Situated at an elevation of approximately 2,300 feet, the park provides a refreshing mountain climate and a true sense of mountain seclusion. The site is conveniently located near the intersection of the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail, making it a prime destination for those who want to immerse themselves in Vermont's wilderness. The dense forest canopy creates private, shaded campsites that provide a natural buffer, ensuring that your stay feels like a genuine retreat into the woods away from highway noise.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features a mix of wooded RV sites and tent areas, alongside a unique hostel-style lodge for those seeking indoor accommodations. While you won't find modern water parks here, you will find essential utility hookups and well-maintained facilities designed for a comfortable stay. Guests often appreciate the large communal stone fireplace in the lodge, which provides a cozy gathering spot for sharing trail stories. The property also features small ponds and open meadows that are perfect for quiet reflection and morning walks.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Travelers can explore the nearby Woodford State Park, which offers beautiful high-altitude lake views and additional hiking opportunities. For a bit of history and culture, the town of Bennington is just a short drive down the mountain, featuring the iconic Bennington Battle Monument and various local museums. Outdoor recreation is the primary draw, with endless miles of mountain biking and trout fishing available in the brooks and trails that surround the campsite area for visitors to enjoy.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature lovers and avid hikers who prioritize peace and quiet over flashy resort amenities. It is an excellent fit for smaller RV setups, truck campers, and van lifers looking for a rustic, authentic Vermont experience. If your goal is to disconnect from the digital world and spend your days exploring backcountry trails or birdwatching from your campsite, Greenwood Lodge & Campsites provides the perfect rugged backdrop for your next outdoor adventure.

Absolutely beautiful campsite, it might actually be our favourite of a two and a half week’s road trip through New England! We’ve stayed two instead of one night in the end, because the views over the lake are simply scenic. Everything is very well taken care of and the owners are super friendly and generous. There’s numerous activities, hike trails around the site, all sorts of sports and games included (volleyball, pingpong, kayaking etc.). Do not let yourself be fooled by any of the earlier bad ratings, this is definitely a 5* experience!

Lovely place and extremely generous people running the campground. Hard to imagine finding anyone more caring about their visitors experience. Definitely recommend staying here. :)

Stayed short notice for one night in a tent at a private site, it was beyond peaceful and so beautiful. Staff was very friendly as well. We had one issue with hearing repetitive gun fire not far from our site, I called to ask staff about it and they took steps to resolve the issue immediately, and we had zero other issues. I can't wait to return here for a longer stay next time!

This place is the heaven of campgrounds. It has so much to offer and the upkeep on this property is amazing. The same owners have had this since 1960. Both Ann And Ed and their son Chris are the greatest people and hosts that I’ve ever ran into. I enjoyed it so much that I went for one night and stayed for three. There are lakes and waterfalls, fire pits, picnic tables Along with water, electric, Wi-Fi, and plenty of room to roam around. I was so impressed with the sheer beauty of this property in the calming feeling that you have when you’re staying there. I will definitely return for many more visits. 😎🥰🇺🇸🏕️🤩 Thank you for making me feel like Family!! Paul Giampa

Greenwood Lodge is our favorite get away location! Our host Ann, Ed, Christopher are absolutely amazing people, they make you feel welcomed and want you to feel right at home. My wife and I have been coming up here off and on since 2019, and if we are away for to long, we feel like Vermont just starts calling back to recharge our souls. I definitely recommend Greenwood Lodge for anyone who wants peace, quiet and a safe environment to relax!

We stayed here at the last minute, and the owners could not have been more accommodating. This was such a beautiful place, I can't wait to go back. It has streams, rocks, mountain views, fresh air, and peace. The campsites were generous on space and extremely clean. Set up for us was a breeze because the site was already completely level. I cannot recommend this place enough!

By far the most peaceful and relaxing campground we’ve ever been to. The owners are awesome, so kind and attentive w/o being intrusive. Facilities are well maintained and in excellent shape. If I could give 10 stars I would. Great place, unbelievable views, clean and spacious! Great place.

We absolutely love GLC! We have been coming here regularly for over a decade, and enjoy the peace and quiet, the friendly people and the short drive from home. There are no "reindeer games" here... just nature and the nearby Green Mountains and local cultural attractions. Tons of trails to hike.

Was looking at staying here glad I checked the reviews. Excluding none vaccinated might be your right for now, but is wrong.

This place is very nice. Thank you for requiring vaccinations and mask wearing!! We appreciate your stand on this! Great walking areas around the grounds, including a pretty waterfall. One of the nicest campground we have stayed at.
