Hemlock Hill Camp-Resort Cooperative

Overview

Hemlock Hill Camp-Resort Cooperative offers a peaceful retreat nestled within the scenic Litchfield Hills of Connecticut. This cooperative-owned park provides a unique sense of community that sets it apart from standard commercial campgrounds. Visitors will find a heavily wooded environment that prioritizes a traditional camping experience while maintaining modern conveniences for both seasonal residents and transient RVers looking for a quiet escape. The park's atmosphere is defined by its towering trees and the slow pace of life that characterizes the rural New England countryside.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Bantam, a charming village within the town of Litchfield, the park is surrounded by the rolling landscapes of northwestern Connecticut. The location is defined by its proximity to Bantam Lake, the state's largest natural lake, and several protected forest areas. Travelers enjoy a secluded atmosphere where the sounds of nature replace highway noise, yet they remain just a short drive from historic downtown Litchfield and its renowned colonial architecture and boutique shopping.

Amenities & Park Features

The resort designation is reflected in the diverse range of facilities designed for active family entertainment and relaxation. Guests have access to high-quality features such as:

  • Two heated swimming pools providing plenty of space for cooling off during the summer months.
  • A well-stocked camp store for essentials, ice, and camping supplies.
  • Multiple sports courts including basketball, volleyball, and horseshoes.
  • Convenient on-site laundry facilities and clean bathhouses for guest comfort.

These features ensure that every traveler has the resources they need for a seamless and comfortable outdoor stay in the woods.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate being minutes away from the White Memorial Conservation Center, which offers miles of pristine hiking and biking trails. For a panoramic view of the region, a trip to Mount Tom State Park is essential, featuring a historic stone lookout tower and a spring-fed swimming pond. Bantam itself is a destination for foodies, hosting famous local ice cream shops and farm-to-table eateries that showcase the best of Connecticut's rich agricultural heritage.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for families and retirees who value a quiet, community-oriented atmosphere over a high-turnover roadside stop. I stayed here for the summer 2025 season. Everyone here was extremely friendly. The staff. The people I met. There are activities every weekend like bingo DJ and kids events. Dinners etc. pretty quiet campground. Really everyone is so nice here. No matter how early I wake up on weekends to walk the dog 6 or 7 am the bathrooms were always sparkling clean. All the time. Pool is nice and store has just about everything you need. I really enjoyed my summer stay here and will be back again next year. Highly recommended.

I wouldnt recommend staying here. Very unprofessional and they will lwt you pay for a site kick you out and give no refund. Its a shame because it is a very nice campground but due to co ops wanting to find issues with anything i am now out 4k thanks hemlock hope you guys feel good kicking out a single mom!!! How shameful

Great place for camping with kids – there’s a pool and a playground. It’s very clean!

Been camping at this campground for over 35 years and with in that time seen many changes but it’s always been a favorite spot for me and my family as it’s one of the most wilderness campgrounds in the state with many campgrounds being more in the open and less trees with paved roads. Hemlock hill to me feels more like camping with a lot of foliage and dirt roads instead of paved roads to me this makes it feel more like camping.

When I arrive there, there was no one to wait on us. We had to search for someone. And the campground just felt like everybody owned their own share (lots of permanent campground sites) and I felt like an outsider in a closed community.

Nice people and very helpful staff. Sites r nice but only a few for long campers. Rs is 40 feet and we had to change sites when we arrived because the 1st site was not long enough to accommodate our rig. Sites don't have sewer, but campground will empty black water for a fee. 1 last note, to quote Dennis Leary from the movie The Ref ' Connecticut is the 5th ring of hell.' I only say that because of things that happened on the ride to Connecticut
