Holden Family Campground

Overview

Holden Family Campground offers a peaceful retreat for travelers exploring the heart of Maine. Nestled within a serene wooded landscape, this family-operated park emphasizes a quiet, friendly atmosphere that makes guests feel welcome from the moment they pull into their site. It serves as a reliable home base for those who want to avoid the heavy crowds of coastal resorts while remaining close to major Maine landmarks and essential regional services for a comfortable stay.

Location & Surroundings

Situated conveniently just off Route 1A, the park provides excellent accessibility for large rigs and travelers heading toward the Downeast coast. The surroundings are defined by mature trees and natural shade, offering a refreshing buffer from the highway while maintaining proximity to the city of Bangor. This strategic location allows visitors to enjoy the tranquility of a forest setting without sacrificing the convenience of nearby shopping, local restaurants, and fuel stations.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground is well-equipped for modern RVers, offering spacious sites with full hookups including 50-amp service and options for pull-through sites. On-site facilities include well-maintained restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient laundry room for long-term travelers. Families often gather at the sparkling swimming pool or the playground, while the camp store ensures you have easy access to firewood and ice for traditional evenings spent gathered around the campfire.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure is never far away, as the park is a short drive from the vibrant waterfront concerts and cultural attractions in downtown Bangor. Nature enthusiasts can reach the iconic trails of Acadia National Park and the charm of Bar Harbor in less than an hour, making it easy to enjoy coastal hikes and lighthouse tours. Local lakes and the Penobscot River also provide ample opportunities for boating and fishing throughout the summer season.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for couples and families looking for a calm, authentic camping experience. It is particularly well-suited for travelers seeking a convenient stopover on their way to the Maine coast or those using it as a central base to explore the Greater Bangor area. Loved it here. Owners are amazing! Campground is clean and quiet. Cindy was very welcoming and kind. We plan to come back soon! Very gracious and supportive for first time RVers. Thank you both for all your help!

Great stay here, we were able to get a great site on Labor day weekend with no prior reservation, pulled into a super clean park, we didn't get to use the pool, but it looks clean! Also very close to 395!

Checking in and any information needed during your stay lacks professionalism. Office is borderline rude. The campground sites need some minor work. The campground is well maintained. Stayed here last summer and made reservations to return this summer nothing on site had changed but alot of the atmosphere has alot to be desired

This quiet and friendly place to stay. Plenty of room for our rv, close by to many attractions. I give it 5 stars.

This is our first time here. We are here for the season and have been made right at home. Cyndi has been absolutely amazing in the office making sure we get our mail and packages and suggesting places to see or visit since we are from out of town. Wayne has been great taking care of the grounds and propane. Laundry, shower house, and restrooms are very clean. The pool is very nice and warm. So far everyone we have met in the rv park has been nice and welcoming. If you don’t enjoy this place you are doing something wrong because this is the best place we have stayed so far hands down.

This place is good if you want to keep to yourself. The gentleman that owns the place is so incredibly kind and welcoming. His wife, not so much. Very standoffish and doesn't do a great job of making you feel welcome like her husband. They appear to be kid friendly with the playground and all but again, the woman does a decent job of making you uncomfortable and feel like you're always doing something wrong or mean mugging my kids and myself watching them play as if they were doing something wrong. The gentleman that mows and weed eats the place is also really nice, but every single time he weedeated he would hit our RV. The gentlemen, location and pool save this place. Unfortunately you don't see them as much as you see the lady in the office. But it will be because of her we don't come back and will find a better fit for myself and my family who have stayed at hundreds of campgrounds and been all over the United States. We were very excited to be here at this park from all of the reviews that were left. Apparently you have to be older, grumpy and returning long stay payers to get even a little comfort and kindness. Will definitely choose somewhere different our next stay.

We've been here two weeks or so and are booked for the whole season. This has been a wonderful experience. The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming. The site is well maintained and it's in a great spot to be. There's lots of amenities around the property, it's a bit of a drive to the ocean but really not too bad. It's the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a campground for the summer.

I enjoyed staying at the Holden family campground. I felt safe and it was easy to get to work at Northern Lights Medical Center which was a plus.

It was a great experience for us. Nice and quiet the testrooms and showers were spotless and a really nice pool. The only downfall is there were hardly any children there.
