I.B. Magee Beach Park

Overview

I.B. Magee Beach Park serves as a premier coastal destination for RV travelers visiting the Texas Gulf Coast. Managed by Nueces County, this park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and updated infrastructure. Located on the northern end of Mustang Island, the park provides direct access to the sand and surf, making it a staple for those who want to wake up to the sound of the ocean and enjoy the refreshing salt air throughout their stay.

Location & Surroundings

The park is positioned perfectly between the Gulf of Mexico and the Aransas Pass Ship Channel. Visitors often enjoy watching massive tankers and cargo ships navigate the channel from the comfort of their campsites. The surrounding landscape is defined by rolling coastal dunes and wide, sandy beaches. Its location in Port Aransas means you are never far from local conveniences while still feeling fully immersed in a rugged marine environment.

Amenities & Park Features

Travelers will find 75 RV sites equipped with full hookups, including water, sewer, and electric services. The sites feature level concrete pads which are essential for stable setups in a coastal environment. Key features of the park include:

  • Modern bathhouse with clean restrooms and showers
  • Coin-operated laundry facilities for guest convenience
  • Close proximity to the Horace Caldwell Pier

The park’s layout ensures that every guest is within walking distance of the shoreline, allowing for easy transitions from the RV to the beach.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the beach, the area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Fishing from the Horace Caldwell Pier is a popular daily pastime for residents and visitors alike. You can take a short drive or bike ride into the heart of Port Aransas to explore local seafood restaurants, art galleries, and boutique shops. For nature lovers, the UT Marine Science Institute and the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center are located nearby, offering educational exhibits and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for beach-focused travelers who prioritize prime location and proximity to the water over resort-style luxuries. It is perfect for anglers and birders who want to be just steps away from their next big catch or rare bird sighting. If you enjoy a relaxed, breezy atmosphere where the primary entertainment is provided by the natural surroundings and the vibrant local coastal community, this park is an excellent fit for your next Texas trip.

An absolutely wonderful campground! It was completely rebuilt after the 2017 hurricane and has long campsites that are well-separated. It is right on the beach and all of the facilities are excellent; the staff are great, too. In addition, the nasty old 3-acre pond had been cleaned out, enlarged and by January 2026 will have a new boardwalk. Further, 40 new RV campsites and 10 tent sites are now being added. The rates are very reasonable, too (about $50/night and $825/month in November,2025). It's a great place to camp right in the heart of the Texas Riviera: Port Aransas. There is wonderful birding as well and we have seen as many as 80 different bird species in one day within 3 miles of the city ferry landing in January.

This was an awesome park to visit while passing through the area. It was clean and well taken care of. It was fun for the kids and for us. I recommend going there and spending a few hours with the family.

The Dunes Condominiums are one of my favorite places to stay. I've been staying here the past few years and I've never had a single problem. Everyone is always so accommodating. My son left his stuffed animal there and everyone went out of their way to recover it for him. I will continue to stay at our home away from home with the best view!

The social climate can feel unwelcoming. Displays of racism and homophobia are common in the whole city; with Confederate and Trump flags frequently visible. Those promoting such views seem protected. The beach is not very clean and people leave their trash every where

This is a great place for surfing, swimming, beachcombing, and sunrise watching. You can also fish from the surf or from the pier. Nice place for kids to play. Please watch for the weather conditions and the flags on the entrances to the beach. Rip tide can be very strong and dangerous.

Lovely location to hit the beach, town, the south jetty and watch the tanker channel traffic. Spacious sites. Full hook ups. No landscaping at all. No picnic tables.

We typically stayed at another RV Resort when we visit Port A, but since we were only coming in for a week, we decided to check out I B Magee. This is a very very spacious RV Park. Long concrete pads, full-hook ups, easy access to the beach. Enjoyed our stay so much, we booked for two months next year.

This beach is absolutely beautiful! There is a wide expanse of sand between the dunes and the surf, and it is clean and well-maintained. The Jetty, which is right next to the park, is a great place to walk out, go fishing, or watch dolphin and green sea turtles in the channel. There is also a large pier, but you have to pay to get onto it, which I didn’t do. This is great place to swim, body surf, or do actual surfing. There are also loads of birds on the beach. I want to go back to this park again and again.
