Inyo/Bishop Park
Overview
Inyo/Bishop Park, specifically the Millpond Recreation Area, provides a peaceful retreat for RV travelers seeking the quintessential Eastern Sierra experience. This county-run facility is celebrated for its **scenic mountain backdrop** and wide-open spaces that allow visitors to feel truly connected to the landscape. It serves as a functional and inviting basecamp, offering a quiet alternative to busier commercial parks while maintaining a close connection to the natural wonders of the Owens Valley and the surrounding high desert.
Location & Surroundings
Located approximately six miles north of the town center, the park is nestled at the base of the towering Sierra Nevada mountains. The surroundings are characterized by the high-desert beauty of the valley floor, offering **unobstructed panoramic vistas** of the jagged peaks to the west. Its strategic location provides easy access to Highway 395, yet the park remains far enough from the road to ensure a tranquil environment. The nearby **Owens River** meanders through the region, providing lush riparian corridors that contrast beautifully with the arid valley floor.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is designed with a focus on recreation and comfort for travelers who enjoy an active lifestyle. Most sites offer **water and electrical hookups**, catering to a variety of RV sizes from small campers to larger rigs. On-site facilities include:
- Clean restrooms and hot showers
- A convenient dump station for guests
- A large **fishing and boating pond**
- Tennis courts and a professional-grade disc golf course
The generous spacing between campsites provides a level of privacy that enhances the outdoor living experience, making it feel less like a parking lot and more like a true park setting.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Adventure is never far away, with the world-renowned **climbing at the Happy Boulders** and Sad Boulders located just a short drive from the park. Anglers will appreciate the proximity to Bishop Creek Canyon, known for its high-altitude lakes and exceptional **trout fishing** opportunities. For those interested in history and nature, the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is an essential day trip. After a day of exploration, many visitors head into the town of Bishop to visit the famous local bakeries or enjoy a relaxing soak at the nearby Keough’s Hot Springs.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is an excellent match for **active families and outdoor enthusiasts** who prioritize access to nature over resort-style luxury. It is particularly well-suited for climbers, photographers, and fishermen who desire a **spacious and quiet home base** near their favorite recreation spots. If your travel style involves enjoying mountain sunsets, star-filled nights, and having plenty of room for your outdoor gear, this park offers the perfect blend of utility and natural beauty in the heart of California’s high country.

Must visit place if you are driving to Mammoth. Stop by at the Eric Chat's cafe which is at walking distance from this park, grab a sandwich & coffee and come to this park to enjoy the views and the soothing sounds of the ducks quacking away
