Jamaica
Overview
Jamaica State Park offers a quintessentially Vermont outdoor experience along the banks of the West River. Known for its lush landscapes and historical significance as a former railroad hub, this park provides a tranquil escape for those looking to disconnect from the digital world. It remains one of the most beloved state parks in southern Vermont, offering a blend of riparian beauty and mountain scenery that perfectly captures the quiet spirit of the Green Mountain State for visiting campers.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the charming town of Jamaica, the park is nestled deep within the southern Green Mountains. The landscape is defined by the West River, which winds gracefully through the property, creating a natural soundtrack of flowing water for guests. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by dense hardwood forests that turn vibrant shades of gold and crimson during the autumn, making it a premier destination for leaf-peeping enthusiasts traveling through the New England region.
Amenities & Park Features
This is a rustic destination that focuses on the natural environment, providing essential comforts for the self-contained RVer. The park features specific amenities for travelers including:
- Wooded and grassy sites designed for small to mid-sized RVs
- Hot coin-operated showers and well-maintained restrooms
- A convenient sanitary dump station and fresh potable water access
While there are no utility hookups at the individual sites, these facilities ensure that visitors have access to the basic necessities required for a comfortable multi-day stay in the Vermont woods.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The highlight for many visitors is the West River Trail, a scenic and relatively flat path perfect for hiking and biking that follows an old railroad bed. A moderate trek from the campground leads to the impressive Hamilton Falls, which is one of Vermont’s most spectacular and highest waterfalls. During specific spring and autumn weekends, the nearby Ball Mountain Dam releases water, drawing whitewater enthusiasts. Fishing and swimming at the Salmon Hole are also classic ways to spend a sunny summer afternoon.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature-focused RVers who prefer a quiet, wooded atmosphere over the bustle and paved pads of a commercial resort. It is best suited for small to mid-sized rigs and travelers who are comfortable with dry camping and boondocking style stays. If you enjoy falling asleep to the sound of a rushing river and waking up steps away from world-class hiking trails, Jamaica State Park is a perfect stop for your Vermont journey.

Fantastic Park. Well space and secluded RV sites, everything is wooded. Wonderful little bike/walking path along the river. Quiet with no road noise. Only downside is like a cell connectivity, but a quick bike ride into town and you were connected. We ended up sitting at the bench in front of the church to catch up on news and emails once a day.

Amazing park to stay at! Our site was right along the river and the views were spectacular. The trail was pretty incredible too--about a 6 mile roundtrip that empties out at a dam with a trail of switchbacks leading to the very top. Truly awesome views. Showers and bathrooms on site were easily accessible, along with a small shop for ice and firewood too.
