Jordan Lake/Vista Point

Overview

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - Vista Point offers a serene escape on the shores of one of North Carolina’s largest reservoirs. Located in Apex, this park provides a more tranquil atmosphere compared to the busier surrounding recreation areas. Visitors find themselves immersed in a lush forest of loblolly pines and hardwoods, with many sites offering glimpses of the water. It is an ideal spot for those who want to disconnect from the city while remaining within a short drive of the vibrant Research Triangle.

Location & Surroundings

Situated on a picturesque peninsula, the park is surrounded by the expansive 14,000-acre Jordan Lake. The geography consists of rolling hills and dense woodlands that provide excellent privacy between many of the campsites. Because it is positioned away from major highways, the primary sounds you will hear are the wind through the trees and the occasional boat on the water. The surrounding Apex and Pittsboro areas offer a unique blend of rural charm and modern convenience just minutes from the park entrance.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV camping area at Vista Point features sites equipped with water and electric hookups, making it comfortable for modern rigs. While there are no sewer hookups at the individual sites, a convenient dump station is located nearby for guests. The park excels in water-based amenities, featuring a four-lane boat ramp and a designated swimming beach specifically for campers. Those who prefer land-based activities can explore the three-mile hiking loop or utilize the large picnic shelters for group gatherings.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can spend their days fishing for largemouth bass or birdwatching, as the lake is a well-known habitat for bald eagles. Just a short drive away, the historic town of Apex offers locally-owned boutiques and cafes in a charming downtown setting. For a more urban excursion, the museums and cultural attractions of Raleigh and Durham are accessible within thirty minutes. Additionally, the nearby American Tobacco Trail provides miles of paths for cyclists and long-distance walkers.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is perfect for boaters and anglers who want direct access to the water from a quiet home base. It also appeals to families who enjoy a traditional state park experience with swimming and hiking. Because of its peaceful nature and proximity to the Triangle, it is an excellent choice for local weekend warriors or long-distance travelers looking for a scenic, well-maintained stopover that emphasizes natural beauty over the commercial amenities of a typical RV resort.

Pick a nice day and pack a picnic and head here for the solitude and scenery! Plenty of sites to choose or pull near the water and stay in your car. Bathrooms are convenient at several different locations You can watch sailboats almost any day This spot is far enough off the main road you will not hear any traffic ... you need binoculars to see the nearest road and bridges ... If you go early you could be fortunate to spot osprey or eagles... Just a very short distance off NC Hwy 64 in fact it is so close you will not believe how remote it feels only a very few miles off the main road ... less than 5 miles! Do drop by ... you will not be disappointed.

Came here for a short hike, here we saw an osprey family on top of that man made pole, 2 babies were fed with a fresh caught fish by parent bird! Too bad we didn’t have binoculars.
