Kaibab/Jacob Lake

Overview

Nestled high on the Kaibab Plateau, the RV facilities at Jacob Lake serve as a tranquil gateway for those exploring the rugged beauty of Northern Arizona. This area provides a refreshing alpine escape from the surrounding desert landscapes, sitting at an elevation of nearly 8,000 feet. Whether you are staying at the forested Kaibab Camper Village or nearby forest sites, you will experience a serene atmosphere defined by ancient trees and clear mountain air, making it a premier basecamp for regional exploration and North Rim adventures.

Location & Surroundings

Located just off the intersection of Highway 89A and State Route 67, the park is surrounded by the vast Kaibab National Forest. This location is uniquely positioned in the small mountain community of Jacob Lake, north of Fredonia. The environment is dominated by towering Ponderosa pines, offering ample shade and a sense of seclusion from the outside world. Its position on the plateau means travelers enjoy significantly cooler temperatures than the nearby lowlands of Kanab or the arid floor of the Grand Canyon.

Amenities & Park Features

The park caters to modern travelers while maintaining a rustic, wooded charm that fits the wilderness setting. Visitors can find sites featuring full hookups and spacious pull-thrus designed to accommodate larger motorhomes and fifth wheels. On-site facilities typically include a laundry room and clean restrooms, ensuring comfort in this remote setting. Nearby, the historic Jacob Lake Inn offers a convenience store and a famous bakery, providing essential supplies and local treats just a short walk or drive from your campsite.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the Grand Canyon North Rim, located about 44 miles to the south. This side of the canyon offers a more peaceful, less crowded experience than the South Rim. Adventure seekers can explore local hiking and biking trails within the national forest or take a scenic drive to the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. The area is also a popular spot for wildlife viewing, where lucky visitors might spot the unique Kaibab squirrel or local mule deer roaming through the pines.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for RVers who prioritize natural scenery and tranquility over resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect fit for families and couples planning an extended visit to the North Rim who want the convenience of hookups in a forest setting. If you enjoy stargazing and quiet evenings under a canopy of pines, this park offers the ideal environment to disconnect from the city and reconnect with the great outdoors in a truly unique high-altitude climate.

Stayed here in Oct. 2025 and everything is open! We even got one of the camp host spots when they didnt return after evacuating for the fire. The vault toilets on site are spotless and there is potable water for filling if needed. The Jacob Lake Inn & Restaurant is right across the street and is DELICIOUS! Get the pot pie and some cookies while youre here. We were able to drive to all of the lookouts on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Beautiful spot, easy to get to. $30 a night was a little rough to stomach for what was offered. I think we saw a camp host but they never introduced themselves.

What a wonderful time we had! We stayed in the Group A site. Beautiful Ramada and area. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and the trash was collected twice a day. The only thing we didn’t love was that there wasn’t actual individual sites. There were just divets around the Ramada. In the end, it was actually decent to have everyone face that way. Also the campfire pit had benches. We would love to come back here depending on what happens with this fire right now. It’s just a quick jaunt to the north rim but from what I’ve been told, it’s burned down 😭. The store and lodge across the street is fantastic and has amazing cookies!

Clean campground with camp host's that do an excellent job. A little loud so I would get to the back as much as possible. 40 miles from the campground to the North Rim NP. Beautiful drive. Clean restrooms. Worked well for us. We were in the National park most of the time.

Great campground - clean and very well maintained. Nice large spaces. Hosts Sharon and Russ were great - helpful and friendly. Watch for the kaibab squirrels - very beautiful with white tails and dark gray bodies. The 24s

Clean, isolated camp area with large campsites, potable water and clean restrooms. Lots of rvs, trailers and tent campers. Also pet friendly for leashed friends. Definitely a beautiful place to stay and explore. Check out the amphitheater too! Wander into the woods and enjoy breathing in some fresh nature.

We stayed here for 2 nights in late-May 2024 and used it as a base to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was an easy, early morning, 45 mile drive to the North Rim. It is a nice US Forest Service campground. We were happy to have reserved site #45 for our camper-van, as the campground was pretty full. The site’s gravel driveway was flat. The campground is near the highway, but there was not much traffic noise at night. The vault toilet was very clean and well-stocked. Highly recommended!

This National Forest is maintained by a contractor and they do a wonderful job of keeping it clean and tidy. The bathrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen and the host provide a jug of hand sanitizer right outside the door. There is absolutely no garbage anywhere in the CG. And all the sites are level. We paid $13 for a night with our access pass.
