L'Anse Township Park and Campground

Overview

L'Anse Township Park and Campground offers a peaceful retreat along the shores of Keweenaw Bay in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This township-managed facility combines a classic natural setting with essential conveniences, making it a popular choice for those journeying through the scenic Northwoods. Visitors are greeted by towering trees and the refreshing breeze coming off Lake Superior, creating a serene atmosphere that encourages guests to slow down and enjoy the rugged beauty of the region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just north of the village of L'Anse, the park provides an exceptional vantage point for watching sunsets over the water. The campground is nestled within a wooded landscape, offering a sense of privacy while remaining easily accessible from US-41. Its proximity to the shoreline means guests are never more than a short walk from the rocky coast of the bay, where the vast horizon of Lake Superior meets the dense forests of Baraga County.

Amenities & Park Features

The park caters to various camping styles with a mix of electric hookup sites and primitive options for those seeking a more rustic experience. While the sites maintain a natural feel, the campground includes vital facilities such as:

  • Modern restrooms and showers for guest convenience.
  • A playground area and community picnic pavilion.
  • On-site dump station and fresh water access.
  • Direct access to a swimming beach and walking trails.

These features ensure that while you are immersed in nature, your basic travel needs are well-covered.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure is never far away, as the park serves as a gateway to some of the Upper Peninsula’s most iconic landmarks. Hikers can explore the dramatic drops of Canyon Falls, often called the Grand Canyon of Michigan, or trek to the summit of Mount Arvon, the state’s highest point. The nearby Shrine of the Snowshoe Priest offers unique local history, while the village of L'Anse provides local dining and shopping opportunities just a few minutes down the road for those looking to explore the community.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for travelers who prioritize scenic waterfront views and a quiet, laid-back environment over high-end resort luxuries. It is a fantastic match for nature photographers and road trippers exploring the Lake Superior shoreline who want a clean, safe, and affordable basecamp. Whether you are traveling in a small camper or a mid-sized rig, the park offers a quintessential Upper Peninsula experience that highlights the simple joys of lakeside living.

Beautiful setting, right on the shore of Keweenah Bay. Sites are roomy, but some are very unlevel. The only hookup is electricity, but there is potable water at the dump station. They also have a fill station complete with several hoses on the road close to sites 6-12. Bathrooms are old but clean. There is a gazebo on the shore of the lake and there is a rocky beach here.

The View is amazing, the staff there were extremely helpful. We were only staying 1 night with our site booked for the next night. Our truck broke down, the grounds keepers knew the right people to help us and get us back on the road the next morning. Thank you guys for all of your help and going above and beyond. Pam Conrad

You have no idea how incredibly refreshing it was to speak to an actual person who could give me a definite answer. I loved the laid back, smile and a hand shake, form of trust they still believe it. The view is amazing and if you're a rock lover.....you NEED TO STAY HERE! We were only going to stay one night, that quickly turned into a three night stay. One I wish we could've turned into a week long stay.

Stayed here last June with my sister. We Tent camped. The first day we arrived it was pouring rain, not ideal for setting up a tent. I messaged the owner to let him know we wouldn't be arriving until the following morning. he was super understanding and accommodating & held our site for us. The location of this campground is right outside the Lanse city limit and, has a private beach access. The campground itself is super well kept, easily accessible, clean, Beautiful. & The bathrooms/shower houses are immaculate. Will be returning again this summer & cannot wait =) You cannot beat the affordable cost of this hidden gem!
