Lake Cascade/Van Wyck
Overview
Lake Cascade State Park’s Van Wyck unit offers a premier lakeside experience for travelers visiting the mountains of central Idaho. Located directly on the shores of the fourth-largest reservoir in the state, this park provides a scenic basecamp for those looking to enjoy the outdoors without sacrificing convenience. The park is characterized by its expansive water views and its status as a gateway to the Payette National Forest, making it a staple for regional explorers and visiting RVers alike.
Location & Surroundings
Positioned on the southern edge of Lake Cascade within the town limits of Cascade, Idaho, Van Wyck blends natural beauty with easy accessibility. The park is nestled between the North Fork of the Payette River and the West Mountain range, offering stunning mountain vistas in every direction. Its proximity to Highway 55 makes it an ideal stop for those traveling the scenic byway between Boise and McCall, providing a quick transition from the road to the waterfront.
Amenities & Park Features
As a state-managed facility, Van Wyck focuses on providing essential features for active travelers. The park offers several sites equipped with water and electric hookups, alongside standard dry camping options. Visitors have access to paved or gravel parking pads, picnic tables, and fire rings for evening gatherings. A primary highlight of the facility is the multiple-lane boat ramp, which is one of the most popular access points on the lake for motorized boats, jet skis, and paddleboards.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Action at Lake Cascade revolves around the water, particularly for those seeking world-class fishing opportunities for trophy-sized yellow perch, trout, and smallmouth bass. Just a short distance away, visitors can explore Kelly’s Whitewater Park for kayaking or walk the Crown Point Trail for easy hiking with elevated lake views. During the winter months, the area remains a hub for ice fishing and snowmobiling, proving that the park is a year-round destination for adventure seekers.
Who This Park Is Best For
Van Wyck is perfectly suited for water sports enthusiasts and anglers who prioritize immediate lake access and boat launching capabilities. It is an excellent choice for families and solo travelers who prefer the natural atmosphere of a state park over a luxury resort. Because it sits within walking distance of local restaurants and services in Cascade, it is also ideal for RVers who enjoy the convenience of town amenities while camping in a rustic, scenic environment.

My wife and I parked in the nearly vacant lot just to walk around for ten minutes. Got back to our car with a ticket on our dash. The signage wasn't big or obvious enough for us to realize we were required to pay; we thought that was just for the campsites or if you were leaving your car all day to go boating. Had we known, we would've just stayed park at the restaurant nearby. Thanks for that.

A fantastic Campground ive been going to for many years and has many great spots. Some better then others, but great overall. Highly recommend this campground. But beware Campground prices seem to change yearly and is pretty high unless u qualify for disability discounts, and have the park pass...

If I could give it a million negative stars I would. I cannot believe the fees, licenses, stickers and 30 dollars a night with NO hookups??? But the worst thing is the communistic rangers telling you that you have to break down camp and move at their whim. Absolutely NO warning. It's illegal and just plain wrong. As a native Idahoan I am disgusted and mourning my home state that is getting Californicated. Shame on you ALL!!!!!!

Lovely no hookups campground! Grass, some trees, some sites right on the water! Beautiful just walking to other close by hookups parks… a wonderful surprise. Lakeside restaurant, boat dock, wonderful camp host. Can get busy and a bit noisy on weekends, but we were there mid week and it was perfection.

No power, no sewer at the campsite we stayed in the upper north side of the park C3. Was able to refill my water tank 75 ft away from the water spicket. The site was a little downhill but we were able to level our camper no problem. There is a dump station as you leave the park. Campos Larry was very nice and accommodating.

Have to say I was incredibly surprised how nice it was I had no idea, about 30 ft of grass leading down to the beach and out to the water the campsite face West so really lovely sunsets. It was quiet all the way through the evening and it really was just beautiful obviously the time of year was outstanding and I highly recommend for families.

Nice, clean little park. Only enjoyed it for the day but we had a good time. Park host, Larry, is a great guy.
