Lake Chelan

Overview

Lake Chelan State Park offers a quintessential Pacific Northwest getaway nestled on the southern shore of one of Washington's most iconic bodies of water. Known for its crystal-clear blue depths and dramatic mountain backdrops, the park provides a welcoming environment for RVers looking to immerse themselves in nature. The park's 139-acre footprint creates a sense of seclusion while remaining accessible to the surrounding community, making it a staple for regional travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated just nine miles west of the city of Chelan, providing a perfect buffer between modern conveniences and the rugged wilderness. The surrounding landscape is characterized by ponderosa pines and steep, sun-drenched hillsides that transition into the North Cascades. Travelers will appreciate the easy access to the water, as the park features an expansive sandy beach area that is rare for the region’s typically rocky shores, providing a gentle entry for swimmers.

Amenities & Park Features

RVers will find a range of accommodations designed to support comfortable stays, including sites with utility connections. The facility is equipped with several features to enhance your experience:

  • Full utility hookups including water, sewer, and electricity at designated sites.
  • A multi-lane boat launch and short-term moorage for guest watercraft.
  • Clean restrooms with heated showers and a convenient dump station for RV maintenance.

The seasonal snack bar and park store provide camping essentials, while well-maintained picnic shelters offer shaded spots for group gatherings near the shoreline.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, the area is a premier destination for award-winning wineries and local cider houses, many of which offer tastings with lake views. Visitors can explore the Little Bear Trail, a 2.3-mile loop within the park that offers gentle hiking through lush forest and scenic overlooks. For a longer excursion, the Lady of the Lake ferry departs from nearby Chelan to transport visitors to the remote, roadless village of Stehekin.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for active families who enjoy water-based recreation and social camping environments during the peak summer season. Because of its extensive amenities and proximity to local attractions, it serves as a great basecamp for those who want to mix outdoor adventure with visits to local vineyards. It is a must-visit for boating enthusiasts looking for high-quality launch facilities and easy access to the expansive upper reaches of the lake.

Such a beautiful, clean lake. The bathroom near our campsite had 4 individual showers and clean bathrooms. Beautiful view of the lake. Be prepared fir lots of boating noise in the summer, and I mean a lot! Campsite had great view of the water and the sunrise.

This is a nice park with camping and day use areas. There is a grass and tree covered area with picnic tables. At the lake's edge, there are grass or sand areas to set up your spot. They have an enclosed swimming area. There is a small store to make food and sundry products purchases. The bathroom has showers and are very clean.

End of July it's hot weather. Take a cool clear water swim in the lake, paddleboard, jetski, go boating. Get bags of ice or maybe a 2 scoop ice cream cone at the concession/store there. You can camp almost right on the water, near a big grass field, under a shade tree - and there is also group camping. Free showers and bathrooms are cleaned daily. Kids playground, volleyball, and a hiking trail. I saw deer roam the campground while I watched the beautiful sunrise. This is an excellent place to go camping.

Beautiful park with plenty of activities for all ages! There’s a nice playground for kids and a swimming area with options to rent kayaks and jet skis. Campsites are well-maintained, and the bathrooms (with showers) were clean. While most sites don’t offer much privacy, the lake views and stunning sunsets more than make up for it. We even caught fireworks from the lake — such a fun bonus! We stayed at campsite 85 and really enjoyed our time here.

Beautiful! I wanted to think it was overrated but I see why people would drive 3 hours to this lake as opposed to other nearby ones. It's large! Plenty of space for everyone, whether on the water or around the lake, so you can enjoy the serene landscape without having to hear other people's conversations and music. Plenty of parking too. There is a sandy beach but you could also walk to the quieter sides where there are spots under the trees for foldable chairs and canopies. You may have to pay at the booth coming in: $10 for day use or $30 for annual pass (Discover Pass). There is a teeny gift section in the booth, some magnets, thermal flasks, and t-shirts.
