Lake Cumberland - COE/Kendall Campground
Overview
Kendall Campground is a premier Army Corps of Engineers facility situated right below the Wolf Creek Dam along the banks of the Cumberland River. This park is renowned for its lush, forested setting and its direct access to some of the finest trout fishing in the Southeast. Unlike the busy resort-style marinas found on the main lake, Kendall offers a more serene, natural environment while still providing essential comforts for modern RVers. It serves as a peaceful basecamp for exploring the vast recreational opportunities of the Lake Cumberland region.
Location & Surroundings
Located in Jamestown, KY, the campground is positioned in a unique valley setting where the cold waters of the Cumberland River flow from the depths of the dam. The surrounding terrain is characterized by steep limestone bluffs and dense hardwood forests that provide excellent shade during the humid Kentucky summers. The proximity to the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery adds a unique educational and functional dimension to the landscape, making the area feel like a dedicated sanctuary for nature lovers and anglers alike.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features over 100 campsites, many of which are equipped with electric hookups suitable for various RV sizes. While the setting is rustic, guests have access to well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers and laundry facilities. Families often appreciate the on-site playgrounds and open green spaces that allow children to burn off energy between fishing trips. For those bringing boats or kayaks, the river access is convenient, and a dump station is available for self-contained units. The sites are generally spacious, offering a sense of privacy amidst the towering trees.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The primary draw for many visitors is the Cumberland River trout fishing, which is accessible right from the campground's edge. Just a short walk or drive away, the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery offers fascinating tours and a dedicated fishing creek for children. For those seeking large-scale water sports, Lake Cumberland is easily accessible via nearby ramps, offering thousands of acres for boating and jet skiing. Hiking trails wind through the surrounding forest, providing scenic overlooks of the river and the massive dam structure.
Who This Park Is Best For
Kendall Campground is an ideal destination for avid anglers and families who prefer a quiet, nature-focused experience over a commercial resort. It is perfect for RVers who enjoy the shade of a heavy forest canopy and the sound of a rushing river. Because of its location near the dam, the air often stays cooler than other area parks, making it a favorite for summer travelers looking to escape the heat. If you value direct access to world-class fishing and a peaceful atmosphere, this COE gem is a perfect fit for your Kentucky itinerary.

We went trick or treating here due to my daughter currently being in a wheel chair, flat path all the way around

Picnic table was warped. Ask for a different one was told they would change it 3 days ago. They haven't came to bring a different table yet. Stayed a week never got a table I could use. Canceling my next trip there

Very nice campground, clean restrooms. Close to trout fishing. Nice bike riding area.

Very nice camp. Site 17 is a little challenging to back a large rig into. Most sires have plenty of room and wide paved roads in this campground.

Big Daddys Eats & Treats has the best burgers & onion rings ever!

Very disappointed. Today we checked out of Kendall COE campground in Jamestown Ky. We stayed at site 73, in the older section of campground. We read a lot of positive reviews and watched a video on our camp site that someone posted. I know everyone looks for something different when it comes to camping. We like a peaceful, private and clean place to camp. We didn't get any of this here. Before setting up our camper I walked over to the main restroom. I wasn't sure if this campground was for us or not after going in. There was toilet paper all over the floor and one of the showers had poop by the shower drain. Apparently there were questionable people staying there as well. The shower curtains were old and moldy. The whole building was outdated. The campsites are closer than what we like. Videos online looked better than actually being there. The people next to us had a dog (Leo), bad when we know it's name, that constantly yip-yapped every time you moved. The people would tell their dog to stop but it wouldn't stop and they would rarely take it in when barking. Kids were everywhere and there was a lot of noise until about 10pm. The best part of our stay was visiting the fish hatchery next door and eating at Big Daddy's, just outside the gate. They had really good food. Just wanted to inform you of our experience. We are now at Duckett COE in Gainesville, GA. It's exactly what we look for. Campsites are farther apart and very quiet. No shady people and a very clean campground!

Not a hotel, but a campground. That being said. The campsites are oddly shaped. My 16 ft. Camper barely fit my site, whereas others next to it were almost 3 times the size. And they are also very close in proximity to each other. Depending on which area of the campground you book, determines how much space you have. It varies throughout the campground. However the people are friendly. But the maintenance crew doesn't maintain the campsites very well. The campsite fire pit next to mine was used as a trash bin and nobody came by to clean the site after the previous person had left.

My family visits this campground often and always talks about how nice it is, so I decided to vacation here as well. We stayed in Site 107 in the Annex campground at Kendall. The site was big and spacious with plenty of room between campers. All of the sites around me looked well kept and the area was very peaceful. Restrooms were kept clean during our stay and the showers had plenty of hot water.
