Lake Mead NRA/Katherine Landing Campground

Overview

Katherine Landing Campground serves as a premier gateway to the southern reaches of Lake Mohave. Located within the expansive Lake Mead National Recreation Area, this site offers a mix of traditional desert camping and modern marina convenience. The atmosphere is vibrant and active, especially during the peak season when the water draws crowds looking to escape the desert heat. It provides a rugged yet accessible experience for travelers exploring the scenic Arizona-Nevada border.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled in the desert hills just north of Bullhead City, the park offers stunning views of the Black Mountains and the deep blue waters of the lake. The terrain is characterized by volcanic rock formations and hardy desert flora like creosote and barrel cacti. Its position near the Davis Dam creates a unique landscape where the Colorado River transitions into a tranquil reservoir, offering a serene and picturesque backdrop for evening sunsets and stargazing.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility includes a large campground with over 150 sites, including options for full hookup RV sites managed by the park concessionaire. Guests have access to essential facilities such as laundry, clean showers, and a dedicated multi-lane boat launch for easy water access. For supplies, the on-site retail store and cafe provide a convenient alternative to driving back into town. Mature trees throughout many of the camping loops offer much-needed shade in the arid desert environment.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities are the primary draw, with world-class striped bass fishing and plenty of room for jet skiing, paddleboarding, or kayaking across the lake. Hikers can explore the nearby desert trails to see unique geological features and local wildlife like bighorn sheep. For a change of pace, the bright lights and casinos of Laughlin, Nevada, are just a short drive across the river, providing entertainment and diverse dining options for those who want a break from the wilderness.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is perfect for water sports enthusiasts who want to be just steps away from a full-service marina and lake access. It is also an excellent choice for winter travelers seeking a mild climate and a friendly, active community. Families will appreciate the designated swim beaches, while anglers and boaters will find the infrastructure and rental options ideally suited for long days spent on the water.

We stayed here over a weekend in November for our first family camping trip. The grounds were clean and restrooms are well looked after. We did some fishing over at the lake (not so much catching). The weather was perfect and couldn't have asked for a better first time camping.

This is an awesome family friendly campground resort with hotel, marina, beach and more. Onsite fuel station, Cafe and gift shop. The campground has both dry and full hookup sites, trash dumpsters and rv dump station with flush and fresh water. I had 3 bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming, no wifi and 18 OTA television channels from my campsite, (pay wifi is available). Campsites are paved, well maintained and fairly level.

Great NPS location with many campsites. Sr discount with America the Beautiful pass $12/nite, $25/nite without, cash only. Sites have fire pits and picnic tables. Restrooms scattered throughout campground. Showers and coin laundry near north campground. Dump and potable water near south campground. Beautiful scenery and close to Bullhead City and Laughlin.

25.00 no hookups - 12.00 with pass. Water and showers are available. Showers are in the camping area on the right after the ranger station. Self pay kiosk at each campground. Campgrounds are on the right and left. There is a Mariana and private beach at the end of the road, or you can access the lake without all the power lines and businesses down cabinsite point road. There is one trail after the private beach. Personally, I would never pay 25.00 to stay somewhere unless it had electric hookups .. $12.00 seemed a bit high even ... hopefully, the showers are amazing.
